She nodded. "Melody Smith. Nice to meet'cha!"
She nodded. "Melody Smith. Nice to meet'cha!"
Melody. "You too. So - uh…where'd you learn the sigils?" He asked.
"My grandmother, you?"
"Um…my mom. She's the…" Don't you dare say 'witch'. "More believing one in our family. The maternal side of the family has been at it for years, but I don't have a sister, so…I was landed with it." He shrugs.
She nodded. "Nice." She said. "So, she's a witch too?"
((He didn't have to, she said it))
(ah.)
"Uh-um-yeah…I guess…" He tilts his head at Melody. "Your definition of a witch is?"
"…A person who practices witchcraft, what else would it be?"
Jackson gulped. "So…you mean…the real thing? As in, nonfiction?"
"Yeah…?"
Jackson looks to his feet, then back to Melody. "Yeah, um…the girls in my family have all been witches, but I don't have a sister and my mom can't have any more kids, so…here I am." He shrugs nervously. "I didn't think it would be that easy to admit to a stranger that they practice witchcraft."
She shrugged. "An affinity to their own, isn't it?"
"That's true." He peers down at her. "What level are you at? Regular, advanced, honors…?"
"Regular, so far…" She admitted, playing with her sleeves. "What are you at?"
"Bordering on advanced." He fidgeted. "My mom's pushing me really hard. She's just kind of disappointed I wasn't a girl, I guess."
She nodded. "Parents must be strange, huh?"
"Strange thing is, I don't have a dad at all. He tried witchcraft for himself and…" He grimaced. "It didn't go over well. The rest of the guys in my family barely know anything about the whole deal. Imagine only being able to go to the opposite gender whenever you need something."
She winced. "Dang, must be rough, sorry."
"It's fine." He shakes it off. "So, um…well, it's not every day you find someone who practices witchcraft. My mom would like you."
She smiled. "It is a bit of a dying craft, isn't it?"
"Yeah, it is." He turned to her. "So, uh - you could come to my house later, if you want." Pearl!!!
"I'll have to call my grandmother to ask, but sure.!" She said happily.
Jackson beams. "Sounds great. Fair warning, though, my mom's going to fuss all over you - in a good way."
She giggled. "Alright."
She turned out better than I thought she would, Jackson thought. This might actually be a good thing. He grinned to himself.
"So…"
“So what?” He tilts his head at her curiously.
(Sorry my notebook wasn’t working for so long)
((Its fine))
She shrugged.
He shrugged too, at a sudden loss of words. Pearl! Get it together!
"So, lunch?"
“Yeah.” He clears his throat. “Sure.”
