Mike and the others pressed against the nearby house, hardly daring to breathe. The monster stepped slowly down the middle of the pavement, its tail flicking back and forth. When it was only a few feet away, it stopped and looked up, its dirty mane brushing the farthest branches of the tree they hid under. It did not seem to see them, but it could definitely smell them. It growled, and the sound thrummed in their bones.
Tanrial swallowed but didn't speak, they needed to get out somehow.
Mike, sorry for the mind breach but… see anyway we can get outta this one alive? She mind linked him and gave him an apologetic look.
Mike's mind was running at full speed as he answered her. It's going to find us and attack. Our only chance is to scatter. You and Rick have the best chance of fighting it and winning, so team up with him. But don't get left behind. It'll leave us alone if we can just get outta town.
Right, we'll distract him, you get the others and the fuel outta town. She gave him a nod before looking at Rick
Sorry for invasion and don't ask questions right now. I just spoke to Mike and he's gonna get everyone outta town and safe while we distract him, if that's okay with you. It's currently our only plan…
Rick was surprised to hear her in is head and didn't realize he could speak back to her, but nodded to show his understanding. He, for one, seemed perfectly confident in this strategy.
Tanrial took a breath before slipping out of the hiding spot and the beast snapped it's head to her. She walked backwards as the thing stalked towards are.
Rick followed, ranging out on one side. The beast snarled turned to face him, then looked back at Tanrial, clearly unsure which of them to focus on. Behind it, Mike and the others began to slip away down the street.
"So how do you want to do this," Rick asked casually, not taking his eyes off the beast. "Just draw it off and injure it, or go ahead and get rid of it permanently?"
Tanrial shrugged and took a step back again, "Well, it might be worth taking it out completely in case we need to come back but I'm not sure."
"Aright. Let's just see what we can do." Rick swiftly lifted his gun and let loose a spray of bullets at the beast.
It roared and rose up on its hind legs, but the bullets merely glanced off its fur. Rick's eyes widened and quickly rolled out of the way as the beast lashed out at him with its scything claws. "Okay, your turn!"
Tanrial formed herself a sword, making sure the tip of sharp before hurling it at the creature as best she could. It managed to hit it's front left leg and let out a yowl of pain but quickly used his uninjured leg to pull it out, letting it drop to the ground.
(Sorry, gotta go, seeya tomorrow ^^)
(Okay, seeya! ^^)
Rick laughed, scrambling to his feet. "Looks like we'll have to settle for luring it off. Hot diggity, I haven't had a good fight in weeks! Watch your head!" He fired off another round, making the beast whirl around to face him. "Let's take 'im back to his house, eh?"
"Sounds like a plan," She made herself another sword, "Although, the only thing is unless we knock him out he's not going to come willingly, he's just going to keep attacking us every time!" She threw the sword again, stumbling back a little at the same time.
Rick switched his assault rifle out for a shotgun, which had a lot more power behind it. "How's about we drop something heavy on him? Even if we can't do much damage, we can at least pin him down to save us some time."
(I might be a little late again today)
Tanrial nodded, "Good idea." She scanned the area for something heavy and big enough to buy them some time to escape, "Ugh, why does he have to be so damned big?!'
(oof that was a little later than I expected)
"Come on this way," Rick said, dashing down the street towards the tractor store. "There's gotta be a shaky building we could lure him into."
"I'm sure we'll be able to find one, this place is so eroded all the buildings are crumbling anyway." Tanrial called, running to catch up with Rick, "That one!" She pointed to a building not to far away that should hold the beast down for long enough.
Rick quickly veered in that direction. "All right, time to run the gap. Can you use your magic to help it collapse behind us as we go through?"
"Yeah, I can… hopefully." The creature was gaining on them as they ran. It was going to be a tight fit for them to get in and out while they trapped the thing.
Rick barely stopped at the door, smashing it open with a kick and darting inside. "Looks like a straight shot to the back. I'll run ahead to get the door–make sure it follows us in."
"Got it, hurry up then!" Tanrial said, stopping at the door for a moment before creature got to close and she ran through, using her power to crumble the atop floors and poles holding them up.
Rick sprinted across the large room, shoving any obstacle out of his way, and got to the back door just as the forest beast burst into the building. Rick threw the door open and waved at Tanrial. "Almost there!"
Tanrial looked back and hurried up her run until she was just by the door, turning around and throwing her arms out to finish the job as the building cracked and crumbled. The beast stopped and looked around for a moment while Tanrial ran out the last part of the building before it collapsed.
There was a furious roar from inside, but it was quickly drowned out by the rumble of cascading brick and metal. A huge plume of dust rose up, catching the sunlight prettily.
Ruck grinned. "Good job, team! Let's get out of here before it gets free, eh?"
Tanrial nodded, panting, "Yeah, yeah let's get going." She looked back at the building once more before heading away from it.
They went quickly out of town and walked along the road to catch up with the others. Rick reloaded and put away his shotgun, admiring the sun dappling through the trees on either side. "I gotta say, you have some moves. That magic sure seems useful."
"Yeah, useful and tiring. All I wanna do is sleep now." She said, looking over at Rick with a small smile.
"Oh, it's tiring? I guess that makes sense, most things are. Still–I wouldn't say no to some powers myself. Fire would be cool. That would be hard for folks to disrespect." He paused, glancing up at the clouds. "Not that I probably need much more respect than I already get with this many guns on my back."
Tanrial sighed, "Yeah, but you never know. Bernon thought he was entirely human until he met me and turns out he's not. It could be the same with you and then you wouldn't need the guns."
"You think so? I've always wondered. As a matter of fact, my dad used to say our family had forest beast blood in our veins, at least a little bit. Who knows, maybe I inherited some cool powers from them but never knew it." Rick looked excited at the thought.
(brb, having supper right quick)
