Vin clung onto Baal's scales quickly, his legs scrambling to keep him up. Soon Baal was back on the ground, and Vin relaxed again. He sat up, looking over Baal's head to see inside.
Vin clung onto Baal's scales quickly, his legs scrambling to keep him up. Soon Baal was back on the ground, and Vin relaxed again. He sat up, looking over Baal's head to see inside.
The shrine seemed completely obscured by fog at first, though when Baal walked inside and the doors shut behind them the fog seemed to clear a bit. It was very serene, with a crystal clear river running through the mossy ground beneath their feet
Vin gazed around, transfixed at the river. "Wow… it's beautiful in here…" He looked up, down, left, right… all of it was almost like a dream.
Baal seemed to smile a bit as he nodded in agreement. "I lived here for some time before Vien summoned me. It is a wonderful place." He came upon a Japanese-style bridge, which he carefully padded over before looking up to spot the shrine in the distance
Vin gazed around slowly. "Where are all of the pups? By the way Isthet made it sound, there were hundreds of them here!"
"Well, Isthet is a liar, as I have told you before. Many of the ones I stayed with have probably grown old by now," Baal responded. "But this is also an enormous sanctuary. They could just be hiding, or playing somewhere else."
Vin rolled his eyes. "So dragons just stop reproducing, then?" Vin gazed around quickly as they neared the shrine entrance.
"No, it takes ages for eggs to hatch, and even longer for them to grow up. There are also very few dragons who are able to reproduce left," Baal answered before reaching the shrine. He bent down to sniff at the doors, but then recoiled when what appeared to be a samurai stepped out
Vin opened his mouth to respond when the samurai stepped out. Vin scrambled up Baal's neck to take a better look, his mouth still open stupidly.
The samurai looked around for a moment before looking up at Baal and Vin poking out from on top of him. She seemed rather dull, with her skin a sort of dark greyish-green and her armor all dull, swampy colors. She had seemed human at first, but the fact that she had three orange eyes on the right side of her face, fin-like ears, and large horns made it obvious she wasn't. "Can I…help you?" she said slowly
Vin poked Baal's head. "Who is that?" He hissed the question.
"Temujin, how wonderful to see you," Baal hummed, ignoring Vin's question as he purred and nudged the samurai gently
Vin blinked. Interesting. She's like a half-breed. His grin returned to his face.
The previously mopey-looking samurai smiled a bit when Baal nuzzled her. “Hello, Baal. It’s nice to see you too,” she said while Baal purred
Vin slid down back onto Baal’s back and gazed around. He’d just heard a weird noise close by.
Baal looked up at the noise, his head tilted curiously. A bit away were what appeared to be hot springs, and more noises seemed to be coming from there
The noise happened again. It sounded like loud yappings.
“What is that?”
“Oh, that? That’s the pups,” Temujjn answered. “They’re playing in the hot springs right now.”
Vin wiggled down from Baal’s back. “Could we go see them?”
“I suppose,” Temujin said with a shrug. Baal seemed happy at that, and he began to walk over to the hot springs
Vin lead the group over to the steamy pool. There were only three pups there. One was romping around with a butterfly and snapping at it; this one was a dark blue dragon rather than a wyvern. The other two were struggling in a fight, one was a soft purple color and the other, a dark forest green.
The dragon snapping at the butterfly took notice of Vin and Baal and came trotting over, abandoning the butterfly. It yapped up at Baal and got up on its hind legs, flailing its smol claws at the larger dragon. Vin ‘aww’ed quietly at it.
Baal titttered and placed his snout under the pup’s tummy, letting it scrabble up into the rocky top of his head. He purred happily, and Temujin seemed to be happy as well
The pup struggled up onto his snout and ran happily up it to his head. The dragon flapped its wings and looked down, then started to yap loudly down at Vin.
Baal looked around to see what the pup was yapping at before turning his head so the pup was closer to Vin
The pup crouched on Baal's head. It appeared the pup wanted to fly down to the Demon but was too afraid to do so.
Vin put his arms up. "Come on! You can do it!"
Baal leaned down a bit more to make it easier for the dragon to jump towards Vin. Temujin watched carefully, looking a lot like a nervous mom
The pup waggled its rump and jumped down, being caught by Vin. It yapped happily and started licking Vin's face with a bright blue tongue.
Baal tittered as if he was laughing at how much the pup seemed to enjoy licking Vin’s face. “I think they like you,” he hummed
Vin spluttered a little and shook the pup's tongue off of his face. The other two took notice and had bounded over to the three, yapping softly at Temujin's feet.
Temujin smiled warmly and scooped one up into her arms. The other one, a wingless wyvern of sorts scrabbled up her armor to curl around her neck. The one in her arms yapped and tried to snap at the air in Baal’s direction
