Tanrial laughed, "That's probably a good idea." She said, walking towards the water's edge.
Tanrial laughed, "That's probably a good idea." She said, walking towards the water's edge.
Mike was a ways from shore, just coming up from a dive. He saw them coming and waved. "Hey," he called. "There's something under the water here. I think it's some kind of machine or car or something."
"Really?" She looked down at her already wet clothes and shrugged, "You coming Bernon?" She asked as she waded into the water towards Mike.
"Uh, yeah. Hang on." Bernon tugged off his shoes and left them in the sand as he followed Tanrial. "What does it look like?"
"I can't really see it," Mike replied. "The water's too murky. But I think I can feel a metal cab and a wheel of some kind. It's really big."
"Could it be a truck instead of a car?" Tanrial asked, "Or is it bigger then that?"
"I'm not sure." Mike was halfway submerged, feeling around for more of the machine. "I don't suppose either of you can magically breath underwater."
Tanrial shook her head, "I can't, Bernon might be able to, water is your thing."
"I'll try." Bernon took a gulp of air and ducked underwater. At first he was scared to try, but then he focused and made the water around his head pull away, sucking in some air from overhead. Okay, hang on. I think I can see something.
What is it? Car? Truck? Tanrial looked down at the water but couldn't see anything.
Holy cow. There was a pause. It's one of those bulldozer things with a digger arm. It's half in the mud, but it looks like it's in good shape.
Oh… that's interesting I didn't expect that. Come back up, there's not much we can do now.
Mike glanced back and forth. "Hold on. What did he see?"
"A bulldozer of sorts. He's coming back up now." Tanrial looked from the water to Mike.
Mike blinked in surprise. "What? No! Send him back down. We have to get that thing onto land."
"Now? You want us to try and bring it up now? It's half buried in the mud down there!" Tanrial frowned.
He looked really excited for some reason. "Ryker's base is underground. If we can get it to work, we can dig him out from the back while we attack from the front! It's a pincer mov–" He lost his footing and slipped underwater for a second. "Yeah, anyway. See?"
(I'm off to bed, seeya tomorrow ^^)
"Do you know how much bloody noise those things make? They'll hear it from a mile away, Mike." Tanrial said, her frown deepening, "And we don't even know how long it's been down there. The mechanics are probably long beyond repair because of all the water."
(Seeya tomorrow ^^)
Mike now had a very stubborn look on his face. "They're underground, and we'll distract them from the front. They won't hear a thing. Let's at least pull it out and see how it looks, then we can decide."
Tanrial looked down and frowned, "Just because we are distracting them from the front, doesn't mean there won't be guard at the back…" She muttered before sighing, "Do you know how much force it's going to take to pull this thing out of the water?"
"Probably a lot…."
Bernon poked his head above the water curiously. "What's going on?"
"Is the machine very deep in the mud?" Mike asked.
"Well….kinda, but the mud's really soft, more like silt. The top layer of sediment is so loose, it moves with the currents."
Mike nodded. "I need to find Polla or Ozrig and ask if they can lend some villagers to help us. As long as we have some strong rope, I don't see why we couldn't get that thing on dry land."
"I guess it's a plan… I still very much doubt it's not going to work. That thing has probably been under there for ages and the water's damaged it." She rubbed at her forehead.
"Maybe you're right," Mike said firmly, already wading toward shore. "But we won't know until it's dry and cleaned up a bit. We still have time before our army even shows up, let's try this."
Bernon glanced back and forth between them, still looking a bit confused. "Um…I guess you and I could use our animal forms to help pull, if we wanted. That would make things a bit easier."
Tanrial shook her head, "Nope. Nope and nope. I am not swimming or.. or anything in my other form. I'll help like this, my magic will be able to do something."
"Okay, your choice." Bernon began slogging out of the lake after Mike. "I wonder how a thing like that got down there? I didn't see any….you know…skeletons in the cab, so it wasn't like somebody accidentally drove it in and got stuck."
Tanrial shrugged as she followed them out of the water, "Who knows really. Or maybe it was driven in there to be hidden and then the driver swam away… it's all awfully strange."
"Yeah. I guess we'll probably never know, unless one of the villagers can tell us."
By the time they stepped onto the beach, Mike was already almost to the tavern. Rick, who'd been watching this entire time with growing bemusement, now stood up and walked over to Bernon and Tanrial.
"You fellas are more entertaining to watch than a crawdad fight. What's going on here? Mister Mike was in too much of a hurry to tell me."
"There's a bulldozer under the lake and Mike wants us to pull it onto land. He says it might help with the fight but personally, I think that's is been under water for a long time and totally useless. But, he never listens so, what can I do to stop his little plan…" She huffed, crossing her arms.
Rick laughed. "Oh, he's one of those bull-headed types, is he? My brother's like that. Any way I can help?"
"We're going to ask the villagers if they can lend some manpower," Bernon said, wringing out his jacket. "Any aid would be appreciated. I don't suppose you know anything about motors?"
"Mmm….not much, but I do know a lot about water damage and how to deal with that. If she's salvageable, I'll be able to tell."
"Good because I doubt Mike can, and if he does then what a miracle since he seems to be able to so many others things but yes, we'd love your help." Tanrial said, giving Rick a smile.
