Rigel heard his phone ring and looked at who was calling, Meun, trying to wipe the snot and tears from his face. He sucked a shaky breath. Just need to hold it back together, just get it back together for a little while longer. Rigel let out a small whimper, then cursed himself, and took another shaky breath before answering the phone, “Hello?” He wondered if his voice sounded as broken as he felt.
Belle glanced at the room number and nodded. She knocked before pushing the door open a crack and sticking her head in.
"Hello?"
“Hello.” Dear. Brown said looking at the new arrivals
Belle pushed the door open farther and stepped in, gently tugging Riverpaw with her.
"Um, hi. We're here to see Aspen?"
She gestured for them to come inside and moved to the side to show Aspen laying on the bed with white bandages on her head, a cast on her leg, and an IV.
Belle walked in and stood by the side of the bed. She frowned as she looked at her friend.
Riverpaw followed Belle, peeking from behind her to see Aspen. Her eyes widened a bit at her friend's condition, and she averted her gaze to the floor.
“Aspen lost a lot of blood through the cut on her head and leg. She broke her leg bone and two ribs. We fixed her up as best as we could but she’s fallen into a coma and we don’t know when she will wake up.”
August took the room number and grabbed Meun’s hand, pulling him upstairs. “God, I hope she’s okay,” he muttered. He pushed open the door to the room, immediately seeing Riv and Belle, before his eyes fell on Aspen.
Meun had barely gotten to talk to Rigel before August tugged him off. He ended the call before righting himself
(my g o d have you ever fallen into a light sleep and then snored so loud that you scared yourself awake??)
(well…I have..and as funny as it is, you can't help but feel pretty embarrassed. Like, even if no one's around)
Riverpaw heard the door open and turned around to see August and Meun. She gave small wave, her worried expression not leaving.
(Lol. I believe it.)
Belle continued to frown at Aspen's still form for a moment before she turned to face the guys, as well. She gave them a curt nod in greeting, her words clogged in her throat.
Rigel looked at his phone. Meun had hung up. Why? Rigel huffed a breath. I should be there, I should be at the hospital… Rigel sniffled a little before wiping at his tears. I should be better than this. Crying over Kate again is a waste of time. But but tears started to fall from his face and he cursed aloud, disappointed by himself.
"What happened to her?" August asked, standing completely still. "Is she still alive?"
"The doctor said she is in a coma." Colden told August.
"Oh god," Meun murmured, his voice sounding choked as his hands went to cover his eyes. He already felt tears threatening to spill from his eyes, but he did his best to try and keep them from falling
Riverpaw looked over Aspen again, then drew her shoulders up in discomfort as she turned to face Meun, and held her arms out as she walked over to him.
Meun’s hands fell away from his eyes, though when he caught sight of Riverpaw he just about immediately started crying
Riverpaw closed her eyes tightly and wrapped her arms around Meun, burying her face in his shirt as she tried to keep her breathing right. Sh-she's gonna be okay…it's gonna be okay..
Meun wrapped his arms around Riverpaw, sobbing softly as he held her tightly to his chest. He couldn't stop crying, not anymore
August felt his heart break. He hated for his friends to look that devastated. “It’s going to do okay,” he muttered, going forward to wrap his arms around the two as well.
Meun sobbed softly, his shoulders shaking as he clutched Riverpaw tightly. If only he knew some sort of healing magic that could help
Riverpaw sniffled as she used Meun's shirt to rubbed at her eyes, but it didn't help stop the tears. She let out a shaky breath, looking over her shoulder at Aspen. I-if.. she's in a-a coma…I heard th-those don't last very long. Two to four weeks at the most…right..? She then looked down at her hand, frowning in disappointment at the faint green symbol on her palm. M-my stupid magic wouldn't be strong enough to help her..
Belle simply folded her arms over her chest and sat in the chair beside the bed. Her stare was vacant, her mind anywhere but the room she was in.
August refused to cry. He still felt shaken from his earlier encounter with his sister, and this wasn’t helping, though he knew he had to stay strong for the others. “Where’s Rigel? Why isn’t he here?”
“There was a man who called the ambulance but didn’t get in. Instead he drove off.” Dr. Brown Inputted
"That must have been Rigel." he mumbled softly.
Rigel tapped his phone on his knee, chewing his lip and he tried to steady himself. Breathe in, out… Breathe in, out… Rigel tipped his head back with a sigh. What am I even doing? There was too much in Rigel’s head right now. He sucked on a cigarette, thinking about the small, yet strong, stash hidden in his bike. Getting high would definitely take the edge off, but… He had planned to be grave digging for the rest of the day and didn’t want to get caught by anyone.
