Luna let out a sigh as she looked down at her lap. She didn't want to see the bruise that would blossom on his neck. Even if it met making an even awkwarder situation.
Luna let out a sigh as she looked down at her lap. She didn't want to see the bruise that would blossom on his neck. Even if it met making an even awkwarder situation.
Cyrus carefully placed his hood to cover up the red mark on his neck and sighed a little bit.
"Sorry, Luna," he said, "Since I've been practicing new things, I've always come out of here a little more beat up than before. You wouldn't be the first to do this to me."
Luna glanced up at him still looking guilty, but now a hint of mischief had appeared. She said in a quiet voice, "S-so about two months?"
"Yeah… I'm not so sure it's going to work out though. I may be built like a brute, but I've never really thought like one…" Cyrus explained, "I think I'm improving a little bit. It hasn't been long. Perhaps I'm just impatient."
"P-perhaps," Luna said thoughtfully, "I think you need to t-trust your head. B-brawn can be good, but your thought process is what makes you th-the most useful. S-so if you want to keep at it go ahead, I-I'm just not sure if it's the best for you. Th-then again what do I-I know."
"I was never good at any swordplay… Sure, I'm pretty bright, but that doesn't do anything to combat the fact that I'm clumsy. I haven't stopped using smaller, lighter blades entirely, but… I don't know, Luna… It's kind of odd having a good head on your shoulders but not being able to act on your own strategy because you're a klutz," Cyrus sighed, "It's like, yeah, maybe I could stick to what I'm good at, but that's not much in the way of fighting. I don't ever want to be in a situation where I have to defend myself or someone I love and I'm not prepared. I could never just lay down and die like that."
"Th-then maybe try a different weapon. Y-you were good at the two handed blade, but you can be good at something and find something better," Luna was trying to be consolidating even though it felt strange to her, "I-instead of a sword, maybe try a staff or glaive or something. Still requires s-strength and is a defensive weapon, but isn't a sword."
"I guess I hadn't thought of that… A staff seems like a bizarre weapon for an assassin, but we're not part of that assassin guild anymore. I can truly pick what I want to wield. There are a lot of options. Unfortunately, most of our weapons here are swords and daggers," Cyrus said, "I'll see what I can do. It takes time to master any weapon though. I'm afraid I won't be ready by the time I have to use it for real."
"I-if you know the basics, you c-can do almost anything with a weapon," Luna said with a bit of confidence, "S-so don't worry about mastering one. Focus on g-getting the basics down."
"Honestly? I think I might have better luck decking a swordsman in the face with my fist," Cyrus said with a laugh, "I'll try some things for sure. We'll see how it plays out."
Luna chuckled a little and smiled over at Cyrus, "That s-sounds good. Always go for a punch th-then a kick."
Cyrus scratched the back of his head. "Yeah, I guess so. Uh… what do you want to do now? I take it we're done training for the moment."
"I-I don't know," Luna shrugged as she let out a sigh, "N-never thought any of this out this f-far."
"That's fine. I mean… there's not a whole lot to do here. Most people just train when they get bored, or sleep…" Cyrus explained, "I'm one of the latter, but that said, I don't get much time to sleep otherwise."
"O-Oh. H-how have you been th-this past year?" Luna said with interest. She wasn't going to tell them about her… Year yet, but at the least she could hear about theirs.
"Busy…" Cyrus said, "Very busy… the first few months were rough. I won't go into detail. I've been helping out a lot with training, and I've done a lot of training myself. I'm better because of it. I've grown, I guess, but it took a lot out of me."
"Th-that's good I guess," Luna wondered if she made his year harder than it should have been, "I-I know how it feels."
"I'm sure you do…" Cyrus agreed, nodding solemnly. He wanted to open up a little more, because she made him feel comfortable, as she had struggled a lot too. But Cyrus didn't want to burden her. or make her think this was her fault.
Luna felt a silence fall between them meirda… She hadn't thought or even spoke in Spanish in what felt like years. Luna spoke again, "Y-yep."
"That's the past though. Let's just- how about we talk about the future instead? What's in store for us? Goals? Plans if we kill the threat?" Cyrus said, trying to change the subject before it got touchy. Then he realized he wouldn't be able to answer this question, because the truth was, he didn't know.
"I d-don't know," Luna said looking away, "I wasn't s-sure if I would m-make it this far. S-so I guess j-just focus on living?"
"Me too…" Cyrus said, "I kind of regretted asking the question as soon as it escaped my mouth. I just want to be happy…"
"Y-yeah, that sounds like a good plan," Luna said quietly. She wanted to trust people again, find another little animal friend, just try to return back to normal as she could at this point. Even thought she was far at this moment.
Zelda came bounding across the room, her little white paws treading quietly on the training mats. She meowed loudly. Cyrus turned to her.
"What could you possibly want?"
She meowed again, and he meowed back louder.
Luna laughed quietly at the pair. She had a small soft smile on her face, it didn't feel like she had left. In fact she could almost feel Zoe right beside her. Except Zoe was dead, Snowdrop was dead, and everything she had a legitimate emotional attachment to is dead. And Luna was reminded of the emptiness inside her.
Zelda was somewhat aware of the negative emotions pouring from Luna, and she plopped down right next to her. Cyrus kept a steady, soft gaze upon Luna. He was afraid for her, but he was even more afraid to bring it up.
Luna smiled over at Zelda, she enjoyed the small tuxedo cats presence. Luna exhaled through her nose quietly, she would get better. Maybe finally tell someone, probably not. Probably never. Not if she was left to her own.
I'll write a note to her later so she doesn't feel pressured to say anything, Cyrus thought to himself, kind of fiddling with his thumbs. He didn't speak for a good minute, just kind of lost in thoughts of what he should do, if he should speak.
"You're never alone," he managed, "Please, no matter what you do, don't isolate yourself or feel like you can't make yourself at home here again. God knows what you've seen… but don't let that stop you. You deserve to live a happy life too."
Luna looked over at him slightly surprised. She never really expected this to come from Cyrus, but then again it made some sense. She managed a tiny smile, "I-I… O-of course. Th-thank you Cyrus. D-dios I hate this stutter."
"I-I know…" Cyrus muttered, "I'm sorry you have to go through this…"
He was holding so much back- stuff that only Eira had really seen, as she was the only one here when Zoe had died and Luna was assumed dead. He had kind of glossed over it, tried to forget about it. Yet now Luna was back. He had never truly gotten over her or Zoe or Zhavia, or anyone in his life who had passed for that matter.
