She’s been going through some things and hasn’t really been too keen on talking to people. She needs some time plus she’s getting used to college.

So the other night, I sat on dewey grass for an hour, gazing up at the stars. Looking at Polaris, wondering how I can find the right direction to travel. I was cold, I knew that, I felt that, but I still didn't really feel anything. I was numb to the world. Yesterday morning, I was depressed. Really depressed. By the time last night rolled around, I still wasn't top of my game, but I was better, much better. I still lost hours of sleep thanks to depression-induced insomnia, but today was better.
And here's a little thing I just wrote as I walked into my building because I didn't want to lose this experience I just had. I wanted to share it with you because I know most of us struggle with depression or some other form of mental illness and it's not fun to be numb and not feel or to only feel sadness, despair, or self hatred. So I hope this little bit of sunshine helps you the same way it just helped me.

what it feels like to feel- a reminder
You're walking home after a dinner with friends, still laughing inside. Loving who you are and who you've found. Warm asphalt and petrichor perfume the air. The sun is just beginning to set. You close your eyes against the glow, but the sun embraces you, warming your face and entire body, not too hot, not too cold. Perfect. You are alone but not lonely. You are perfectly content, right here, right now, in this moment. Something whispers that this moment won't last forever, and it's right. So you write it down, tuck it away for a rainy day or a dark night. So next time you need a little sunshine, it's right at your fingertips.
