Nagai held the smaller girl in her arms, not wanting to let go. Silent tears streamed down her face and her nose started to run. Instead of breaking apart to write, Nagai wrote around the younger girl. Lata needed this, so Nagai wouldn’t let go until she did.
As the young girl cried, Nagai wrote, I should also tell you my name is Nagai. I’m so sorry, I feel awful. What could I ever do to make it up to you? it was messy, but readable. Nagai squeezed Lata, trying to comfort her.
Looking up, Lata rubbed away the warm, salty tears and read the note.
Nagai…
Pressing her lips in a thin line, Lata really didn't want to guilt Nagai any longer. She seemed sincere and even spoke despite the pain.
"This is good enough. The fact that you mean it is enough," she responded softly. Letting go for a moment, she remembered what she had been planning earlier on in the day. Telling Nagai to wait for just a moment, the younger of the two crawled out the window to pick up the silver chain. Somehow it was still there. Picking it up, she rubbed a bit of the dried dirt off of it and came back inside. Sitting in front of the older girl again, she presented her gift.
"This is for you… sorry that it's a bit dirty, but you're probably able to wash it off at home I suppose…"
(I have 3 minutes left in my free class period so I'll be back either when I get home or if I get done with other work early.)
Nagai took it and smiled. She hugged Lata again and brushed off the dirt with ease. It might not have been the prettiest chain, but to Nagai, it was. She looked the girl in the eye and mouthed, “Thank you.”
She put on the chain, smiling. She wrote, Thank you so much. tht was all she could really say. Nagai wiped her eyes and nose.

Okie, no problem!//
Lata smiled back, overjoyed that Nagai had liked the bracelet. The other was likely rich, but despite this, was happy with something a mere poor girl had gifted her with. It touched Lata's heart that the older girl had even put it on.
The relief that seemed to be flooding the room was such a wonderful calming chance in contrast to the chaos of the broken down sector of the city.
Wiping away more tears, the young girl stared up at Nagai, wondering so many things. Why come to the worn down slum in the first place? Why continue to visit her after seeing how bad the area was? Deciding that the questions could wait a bit longer, she continued to let the happy moment last.
Nagai smiled at the younger girl. She wished she could do something for her, give her a better life, but she knew her father would be suspicious. There wouldn’t be a way without raising her father’s suspicion and possibly getting not just herself, but Lata as well, in trouble. The only thing she could do for the time being was help her with food, water, and other necessities.
^cough^ not for long ^cough^//
^cough^ you’re gonna get found out ^cough^//
Ahem, excuse me, there’s quite a bit of dust where I am.//

Noticing a sad look in the other's eyes, Lata took her hand and gave it a light squeeze. It's something her father used to do when worry came to be too much. It was a reminder that someone was there beside you through the troubles.
Nagai smiled and squeezed Lata’s hand back. She remembered something and happily wrote, My father’s gone all day today, so I can stay until tonight! Nagai grinned, If that’s ok with you, of course.
"Of course it is," Lata responded quickly. She still didn't understand as to why Nagai wanted to spend time here of all places. It was pure irony that all Lata ever wanted was to be set free from the slums.
"The only thing is that there really isn't much to do," the young mage said with a dry laugh.
Nagai shrugged, But we’ll be spending time together, and that’s what counts, right? Nagai grinned.
Returning the smile, Lata nodded. Remembering her ability, she turned to Nagai and said, "Think of an object. Anything."
Nagai thought for a moment, *A basket.” *she decided. Nagai watched, curious as to what was going to happen.
Lata seemed to pout slightly with the mundane item, but summoned her magic to her fingertips. To show off slightly, golden whisps made circling motions in and out of her fingers. Smirking, she cast an illusion of a simple woven basket.
Nagai looked at the illusion with awe, waving her hand through it. She grinned and wrote, That’s so cool! Can you try a more complicated thing like Nagai thought for a moment, a candelabra?
"A candle what now?" Lata asked, giving the other a bewildered look. She had no idea what a candelabra even was.
Nagai’s face grew warm, Sorry, I should’ve known you wouldn’t see one. They hold candles and look something like this: Nagai sketched a candelabra as best as she could.
Letting out a small hum, she gave her best attempt at creating a candelabra, despite never having seen one. The branches of the candlestick was oil black, holding 3 white candles.
"It turns out better if I've seen it in real life," Lata explains with a shrug.
Nagai nodded, It’s still really good! she reassured Lata. She wrote, What’s the most complex thing you’ve ever made?
(I had to think on it but I've got a sad answer)
Thinking about it for a moment, Lata went through every illusion she could think of. She usually used them to distract anyone attempting to follow her with simple things like a rock or a small object falling over. As for most complex however…
"My parents. When they died, my emotional state wasn't all that great. I couldn't stand knowing I was alone, so I made the illusion so it would feel as if they never left. It's been a few years so I've been able to recuperate since then."
Quickly shaking her head, she looked back up at Nagai and smiled.
"Now I have you."
……….//
WOW
THANKS FOR MAKING ME FEEL HAPPY
AND SAD
AT THE SAME TIME!!!!//
Nagai smiled and brought Lata into a hug. When they separated, Nagai looked the girl in the eye, smiling, and nodded her head, brushing away a stray lock of hair from Lata’s face.
My replies may be a bit short, I’m working on a thing :P//
Smiling back, Lata made the candelabra disappear. Laying down on the ground, she made the ceiling appear to be scattered with stars in the night sky. It was always calming to Lata for some reason.
Nagai lay next to Lata, looking at the ceiling. She admired the stars, amazed at how real they looked. Nagai realized something as she looked at the illusion of the sky and wrote, I haven’t shown you my power yet, would you like to see?
