Oliver's eyes darkened a bit, but let Briar go without a fuss. There'd been enough loss today and Oliver didn't want to cost another life. He sat alone on the bed after she left, head in his hands.

“Dr. Horne..come with me..please..” Briar stopped in the doorway of her room just as she was about to cross the threshold.
“I could really use your help..I know I said that earlier, but losing the patient was my fault. You’re brilliant and I..” Briar blurted, extending a hand to her fellow teenage colleague.

"It was my fault, but let's not waste time." Oliver grabbed her hand, keeping his eyes glued to the floor.

“Alright..let’s go..” she nodded to the intern who led them down the hall quickly to the trauma bay. Of course, the trauma bay was always in a state of pandemonium. But today the craziness level had been taken up a notch.
“There was a bus crash. Twenty people injured..no one died..” the intern said quickly.
Briar didn’t stop to listen. She rushed into the bay head on, pulling on a pair of rubber gloves as she did so.

Oliver followed suit, putting on gloves and trailing at Briar's heels. His mind went blank already in "surgeon mode" in order to asses the situation in front of them.

An intern approached Caroline. "Bus accident, twenty injured."
She nodded. "Lead the way."

Just as Briar reached the threshold off the bay, she felt a sharp pain shoot through ear stomach with such force, she felt to her knees and screamed.

“H-help..I think I’m..pr—“ The a puddle of water splashed out from under her, creating wet stains along the insides of her scrubs.
“Please, Caroline ..anyone..help..”

"Briar?!" Oliver scrambled around the corner, trying to help her to her feet. "You should've stayed in bed." He mumbled, worry in his eyes.

Caroline heard a scream from behind her. She whirled around, and saw Briar on the floor, shaking. Terror coursed through her.
"Not again, not again," she muttered frantically. "Briar, Briar listen to me. What's wrong?"

“I think..I might be in..l-labor..I didn’t know..I was pregnant..err!” She pressed a hand to her stomach, willing the pain to go away.

"What!" Caroline screeched. She lowered her voice. "You're no even showing, Bry. How could this be happening?"

Oliver felt useless in this situation, but he was shocked anyways. What… How could this even be going on? He didn't bother to voice his opinions, only offered out his hand in case she needed to squeeze it for pain relief.

“Aren’t you a neonatal surgeon? You should know!” Brair snapped, tears rushing down her face. She squeezed Oliver’s hand tightly, grateful for his presence.

Oliver bit back a hiss of pain as Briar squeezed his hand so tight that he thought it might break. "What do we do? W-What can I do?" He looked at Caroline for direction.

“Aren’t you a neonatal surgeon? You should know!” Brair snapped, tears rushing down her face. She squeezed Oliver’s hand tightly, grateful for his presence.

A lump rose in Caroline's throat. She looked at Oliver. "Get someone to prep a room on the 3rd floor. Near a bathroom!" She nodded briskly and scooped Briar up into her arms. She carried her to a free room and set her down on the bed. "Okay, Briar, I need you to focus. How long have you been pregnant?"

"Got it!" Oliver gave Briar's hand a reassuring squeeze and bolted out of the room, flagging down a few nurses. "Prep a room on the third floor. Closest to the bathroom as possible. There's a baby being born!" He exclaimed, following them to make sure the room was all set.

“I..I honestly don’t know..six months at the most? But I hadn’t felt anything until a few days ago..argh..” she gripped the bedsheets, trying to relieve her own pain, but her attempts were fruitless.

Oliver paced the floor of the hospital room, uncertain of what do with himself. Should he go back to Briar or wait for her to arrive? Did Caroline need his help or was he hindering more than helping? He settling on pacing the floor anxiously.

"Okay, around six months. This could be a miscarriage, Briar. Or an ectopic pregnancy." She backed away and pulled up a stool. "There's also the chance this is just regular pregnancy bleeding. Has it bled a lot these past few days?"

“N-no..there’s hasn’t very been much bleeding..I thought it was my period..” Briar said through her labored breathing.
“P-please..just help me..get it out..” her tears started up again, but she had no desire to wipe them away.

Caroline looked up. "Do you want to keep this kid, Briar? Because in two of the possible scenarios, it won't survive."

“I..I..want to keep it..if it does survive, of course..” Briar said softly.
Just then, her father..who was still in town after he and his daughter’s awkward meet-up rushed in, a mix of anger and fear plastered across his face.
“Briar..is this true, sweetheart? Are you really..?”

"Sir, please, your daughter needs total calm right now. As soon as we have an update, I'll make sure the information is passed to you first." Caroline told Briar's father. She turned back to her friend. "Ok, Bry, I have to examine you and make sure this isn't an ectopic pregnancy."

Dove decided to go back to her office and sit for a while.

“Alright..” Briar motioned for her father to leave the room, which he did I dutifully.
She moaned softly
“It hurts..”
