@Fraust

"Well… I think you know about my family life, but perhaps not all the details. I live in a small town called Tazmily, I'm ten years old, and this girl named Nana and her mom give me bread when the house is locked and I can't get in. They're cool. There's Lighter and Fuel; Fuel's my age and he was really good friends with Claus. Tazmily's pretty quiet in general… there's these creatures called Dragos that are normally friendly, and one had died, but it got revived as a sort of mechanical Drago, and… well, that's what killed my mom and Claus. The pigmasks are the ones who did it."

@Fraust

Lucas shrugged again. "They keep trying to sell these things called happy boxes to everyone. I think I'm the only one who hasn't bought one. After leaving the island for the first time, I take it that they're rather like 'televisions', but they brainwash you or something."

Deleted user

"All television brainwashes in a way." Susan said. "But do go on."

@Fraust

"Like, they're taking over, but these 'happy boxes' are making people think it's alright. They're not worried about it, and they all seem pretty out of it. The only other person I can think of who hasn't got one is Nana and her family… Nana's always been reasonable like that. Not to mention, she's been my only friend through it all." Lucas, if not strangely happy, at least seemed less tense when he spoke about Nana.

@Fraust

"She is! She's been my friend as long as I can remember, and she's not as hotheaded as Fuel. Also, she and her mom are really good at making bread. I would know, considering that's basically what I live off of since I dunno how to cook."

Deleted user

"I'm glad you have such good friends around. I never did."

@Fraust

Lucas shrugged, becoming faintly aware that his cheeks had flushed a light pink. "I dunno, she just… she doesn't always look down at me like "Oh, you poor thing" like everyone else does. She looks past my struggles and helps me through them at the same time. I'm not just an abandoned child to her- I'm her friend, and an equal. I appreciate that."

Deleted user

"If only everyone was treated as equals. The world would be a much better place if they were, but alas, it cannot be so."

@Fraust

"True…" Lucas fidgeted with his hands. "I feel like Nana's always just been… I dunno, a better friend than anyone else. Like, not that anyone else isn't good, she's just… closer to me, in a way."

Deleted user

"Everyone finds someone like that eventually. Like me and my fiancee, Lobsang." she said. "You're lucky you found her early on in your life."

@Fraust

"Fiancee? What do you mean? Nana's just my friend." Lucas's face flushed deeper pink, and he seemed a bit flustered.

Deleted user

"Oh, I was just talking about me and Lobsang, I was never implying…."

@Fraust

"But the way you were talking about it, it… i-it sounded like…" Lucas's cheeks grew steadily redder until he couldn't make eye contact with Susan. Of course, he did like Nana. He just didn't quite understand the feeling yet.

Deleted user

"Relax, Lucas. I'm sure you're just friends, nothing more."

@Fraust

"Am I? I dunno anymore… I… I-I feel different around her. It's not like when I'm with Fuel. There's something about her that just really stands out to me. I really like being around Nana, and I like that she treats me as more than the boy who lost his family."

@Fraust

"He's a boy about my age, maybe a bit older. He can be nice when he wants to be, but he doesn't typically want to be. He says that Claus was the better twin a lot, and stuff like that. I dunno… he's usually off doing his own thing. He's very independent."

Deleted user

"Is he really a friend then? If he's so mean?" she asked.

@Fraust

Lucas shrugged. "I was under the impression that most boys were a bit mean. I mean, I don't think I'm particularly mean, but you know…"
