“I uh, I think I’m going to sit down” Madylin said walking to her shoes and going to sit down at an empty table.
Paris laughed, “Madylin is Mrs. Pots and I’m thinking Jay’s Cogsworth”
“I uh, I think I’m going to sit down” Madylin said walking to her shoes and going to sit down at an empty table.
Paris laughed, “Madylin is Mrs. Pots and I’m thinking Jay’s Cogsworth”
“No, come dance with me,” Jay said and tugged her arm, and taking another swig. When he started, he always had trouble finding a reason to stop. There wasn’t really a reason tonight, since Brennan was with a girl and Jay needed a pick-me-up. The fire in his throat made him smile at her, “I thought we were having fun tonight! I figured I could at least drink with you, Brennan would shame me if I told him!” Jay exclaimed louder than he ment to, then took another swig.
“Yes! Jay’s definitely Cogsworth!” Brennan said, laughing more, “I could see Madylin as Mrs. Pots too.”
“No no I’m good” Madylin said wriggling from his grip and going to the seat.
“So I’m not crazy then” Paris said with a grin.
Jay followed, his feet stumbling slightly. He took another large swig as he plopped down to next to her, “I told -hic- you, you’re boring. Come drink with -hic- me. Or at least, at least dance,” Jay leaned forward, almost falling into Madylin.
“I wonder what Cogsworth and Mrs. Pots are doing now,” Brennan mused as he put his arm around Paris.
“No no no no let’s go back to your room. Come on we can dance there” Madylin said, standing up extending her hand to him.
“I don’t know. Prob- oh no.” That feeling. That damn feeling she had when something was wrong with Madylin. “Shit. I have to get up and call her” she said throwing the covers offf of herself and moving to get up.
Jay shook his head, “No, no, no,” His words trailed into each other because his tongue felt too thick, “There’s drinks -hic- here, and I can never drink around -hic- Brennan. He’d say I’m ad-hic-addicted,” Jay took another swig for emphasis, but he found it was empty. He frowned, then looked to a nearby girl who was opening up another bottle, “Give it here!”
The lady walked over smoothly, and handed him the drink, with a knowing smile at Madylin, “Good luck with your boyfriend tonight.”
Jay shook his head sloppily, taking another swig. The alcohol brought a welcome burn to his throat, before mumbling, “I’m into -hic- guys.” Jay stumbled over to Madylin, “I got drink, we can feast in my -hic- room,” The world was spinning slightly as he made a crooked grin.
Brennan got off the bed too, concern written on his face, “What is it? What’s happening?”
Madylin gave him a smile that was laced with pity. “Come on sweet cheeks” she grabbed his hand, slid her shoe straps over her arm and started walking towards the hotel boardwalk.
“I’ll explain later. I need to call her. Somethings wrong.” Paris said snatching her phone up and opening her phone to call Madylin. As she pressed her phone to her ear Madylin picked up.
“I was about to call you. He’s stupid drunk. And uh just get your boyfriend to his room and wait for us. We’ll be there in a minute.” Madylin said frantically into the phone while half dragging Jay up the board walk and towards the hotel doors.
Jay stumbled around, Madylin’s arm the only thing keeping him outright and moving. He gulped in the rest of the bottle before they made it to the hotel room. He frowned at the emptiness of it when he stumbled into the elevator.
Brennan watched Paris attentively. Unable to hear what was happening made Brennan bite his lip.
Paris brought her hand up to Brennas face and rubbed her thumb over his lip. She hung up the phone and started putting on her shoes. “We need to go. now.”
Madylin presses the button and the doors closed.
When they both had shoes on Paris walked out the door and to Brennan and Jays Hotel room. She had her phone and the key card in the hoodie pocket and was walking fast. When she reached their door she turned to Brennan to open it.
Brennan opened it, concern etching his face, “You still haven’t told me what going on.”
Jay licked the last drops from the bottle, “That tasted good. I want more -hic- spirits.”
“We’re goung to your room to get more.” Madylin said with a smile as she exited the elevator, pulling Jay along behind her.
“Your best friend is drunk. We have to take care of his dumb ass. You’re lucky Madylin was with him because if it was anyone else they’d have taken advantage of him.” Paris said pushing in the door and pulling Brennan in beside her, putting the door stopper thing out so Madylin and Jay could get in.
“You find him some clean clothes Incase he throws up, I’m going to make sure there’s towels and stuff ready Incase we have to bathe him. Do y’all have ginger ale?” Paris asked as she walked into the bathroom.
Jay grinned again and stumbled behind Madylin, mumbling strings of words that couldn’t be deciphered in his drunken mess.
Brennan’s jaw dropped. He scrambled for words, “Drunk? No, Jay isn’t old enough to drink. Are you sure? Maybe- Maybe you misheard?” Brennan was too stunned to move. Jay just couldn’t be drunk. Brennan would have known about it.
“”He’s drunk alright” Madylin said from the door that she just walked through with Jay. She snatched the empty bottle from Jays hand and took him to the bed.
“Help me get him into bed please” Madylin said to Brennan.
Brennan looked at his friend. His eyes were drooping and a lazy smile was on his face. Jay stumbled over to him, and Brennan had no choice but to hold his best friend up, still in shock. Jay spoke with a smile on his face, “I was told there -hic- would be more drinks -hic- here.”
Brennan looked at his friend with shocked eyes and spoke with a firm voice he had never used before, “No, there are not- You are never drinking again,” Gosh… Jay drank. How many times had he done this before? All those nights when Jay had come back late and collapsed on Brennan’s bed… Brennan grabbed his friend’s forearms and hauled him into the bed. Jay collapsed his face into the pillow, and Brennan rolled him onto his side.
“I want more, Brennnnnnan,” Jay drawled, tugging on his arm.
Brennan sat down next to his friend and looked him dead in the eyes, “No.” Jay pouted, and Brennan frowned.
“Also I learned some interesting news that we’ll have to ask him about when he sobers up.” Madylin said with a mischievous smile.
“Brennan do y’all have ginger ale and Tylenol? Actually Midol might be better.” Paris called from the bathroom.
“I don’t know, I don’t think so,” Brennan called, looking helplessly at Jay, who’s eyes were drooping enough not to notice. Brennan looked over at Paris, “Can he just sleep it off?”
“Sure. But I mean for when he wakes up. He’ll have a bad hang over from the looks of him.” Paris said walking out with a cold damp wash cloth to put on his head. “I’m going to the store then. Need anything?” She asked walking to the door.
“Swedish fish please!” Madylin called from her place next to Jay on the bed. She ended up beside him on the other side of the bed, legs tucked under her.
“I think I’m good…” Brennan mumbled. He was at a loss. His friend had gotten drunk. After Paris closed the door, Jay’s eyes fluttered open more, “She’s boring. Is she getting more -hic- drinks?”
“No, Jay,” Brennan said firmly. Jay sat up.
“I like you, Brennan. I like you a -hic- lot,” Jay said, a sudden drunken seriousness washing over him. Brennan stared at him.
“You’ve always been a good friend,” Brennan said, confusion gone. Jay was just talking about how good friends they were. Brennan smiled, “Lay back down before you pass out and hurt yourself.”
It was like blinking an eye. One moment, Jay looked like he was laying back down. The next moment Jay was right next to him, his lips pressing into Brennan’s. Brennan nearly jumped back, falling off the bed with a thud. A look of shock what covering his face. Jay had… Brennan involuntarily shuddered. Jay looked at the floor, and Brennan couldn’t read his emotions, “I-“ Brennan didn’t know what to say.
Madylin snorted from her place on the bed.
“Well I guess we don’t have to ask about the news I found out.”
Paris walked back to her hotel room and grabbed her purse. She walked to the elevator and down to the car garage when she arrived on the ground floor.
Jay laid back on the bed, on his side, and said nothing. Tears lined his eyes. Brennan didn’t know what to do. What to say. He felt terrible but he couldn’t just- Brennan looked at Madylin’s hopelessly. He’s just drunk, he’s just drunk, he’s just drunk, he’s just drunk, he’s just drunk, Brennan repeated in his head. He knew the words were just a cover up. Jay tooked his head into the pillow, his shoulders shaking a bit. Brennan was supposed to be his Brest friend, and when Jay needed it the most, Brennan couldn’t comfort him.
Madylin put her hand on Jays shoulder in comfort, not being able to do much else, As he was laying down. She smiled up and Brennan who had a semi frantic look on his face.
Paris got to her Jeep in the parking garage and took off to the store to get ginger ale, midol and Swedish fish.
(Jay and Brennan: Friendship cracking, awkward moments, jay’s crying, Brennan’s panicking out of his mind
Paris: Just going out shopping, that’s all)
Brennan got up off the floor and walked next to the bed. He cautiously put a hand on his friend’s arm. Jay flinched, and Brennan withdrew, “I- I’m sorry.”
Jay looked up at him with pained eyes, “I’m just a freak.”
Those few words coming out of his best friend’s mouth was enough to start he internal wildfire of guilt inside Brennan. He caused this. And he still didn’t know what to say.
(Well in her defense, she doesn’t know what’s going on. She’s not there to see it)
Madylin gave Jay a gentle sleaze on the shoulder and got up. She walked up to Brennan and grabbed his hand, more or less dragging him out on the hotel room balcony. “This isn’t your fault. You have no reason to be mad at yourself.” She said as soon as the door closed behind them.
Paris arrived at Walmart, which was just down the road, and walked inside. She grabbed a grocery basket and hung it from her arm as she walked towards the medicine to get Midol.
(Yeah but it’s still funny when you read their perspectives side by side lol)
“I-“ Brennan started helplessly, “I hurt him. I really hurt him, Madylin.”
“No, you didn’t. He. Is. Drunk. Maybe he’s gay, and that’s okay, but you’re not and he has to respect that. Don’t you dare feel bad for him not thinking straight.” Madylin said, ands flailing and fingers pointing.
“But-“ Brennan sighed, “But I still can’t be there for him. I don’t know how,” Brennan glannced back at the apartment, “And he’s going to regret all of tonight.”
“He’s not going to remember it. He’s black out drunk. I’ve seen people get drunk like this before.” She said with a pause then looked at him, “You have to tell him that it’s okay, and that you support him 100%. You may not swing that way, but you obviously still support him. You probably know other guys that are gay right? I mean Paris has two dads. Just be there for him, and talking about girls and talking about guys can be a little different but not much.”
“Are you sure he’s not going to remember it?” Brennan asked hesitantly.
“Maybe bits and pieces at most. He won’t rememer majority of it if he remembers any at all.” She justified
“Ok. Okay,” Brennan said, nodding his head as if affirming it for himself. He looked at the sky, the stars shining down, “We should get back in. Paris will probably come back soon.”
