"Yeah…" Vin turned his hand over in the sparkling waters.
"Yeah…" Vin turned his hand over in the sparkling waters.
Vien smiled at Vin. "It's a wishing well, too. One of the only real ones I've seen."
"Real ones?" Vin looked at him.
"Real wishing wells are hard to come by. There's only one on each continent or so if I remember correctly, since they can be so dangerous," Vien explained
Vin blinked, for a moment, he wondered if he could wish his cousin back. No.
"Most wishing wells have a catch, too. For example, this one's catch is that your wish only lasts for a few years depending on what type of wish it is. The bigger the wish, the less time it'll last."
"Oh." Vin felt a crash of disappointment and hid it. That glorious moment was murdered, just like his cousin.
"I think it was a system set in place so people can't abuse the well's power. That way if someone wants world domination, it only works for a few minutes or something," Vien said with a shrug
Vin nodded. "Makes sense."
"Well, enough of that. I'm starving," Vien said, grinning as he sat down on one of the benches
Vin stared at the fountain for a few more moments before rising to follow Vien. How long would he last if I wished for him to come back? Would Vien know?
Vien set the basket on the ground in front of the bench. He began to pull some of the food out, starting with the sandwiches
Vin crossed his legs. Just forget it.
"Here you go," Vien said, handing Vin his sandwich before carefully pulling the wine glasses from the basket. He set them on the bench before pulling out the bottle of wine and pouring them each a glass
Vin unwrapped the sandwich and bit into it. It wouldn't have worked, anyway. You can't bring someone back to life.
"Is it good?" Vien asked, seemingly completely oblivious to Vin's distress until he turned to look at him. Being a witch, he was able to see auras, and Vin's appeared to be giving off some sort of distress
Vin smiled at him. "Yeah, it's great."
"That's good," Vien said, smiling as he took a bite of his own sandwich. He couldn't help the slight unease that was bothering him now. Why was Vin so distressed? Was it something he did?
Vin swallowed. I'm alright without him. I don't need Mat. He swallowed against a lump in his throat.
"Are you alright?" Vien eventually asked, unable to help his growing worry
"Yeah. Just getting my hopes up about stupid things." He shook his head and bit into his sandwich.
"And you were the one who was worried about me being happy," Vien said with a small chuckle. He wrapped an arm around Vin, pressing a kiss to his cheek. "Just relax, love. There's no reason to be upset."
Vin grunted a little and let Vien pull him close.
"Please don't be sad," Vien murmured, now feeling a bit upset himself. He wanted to help Vin feel better, but didn't know how
Vin leaned his head into the other's neck and sighed. "Sorry… I didn't think it'd turn this way."
"It's okay," Vien mumbled. "You know you can talk to me about the things that make you upset, right?" he asked gently
"Yeah… it's just… something stupid." He shook his head.
"I'm sure it's not," Vien protested softly. "You know I care about you, and I hate to see you upset. Please tell me what's wrong."
"It's just an old grief." Vin shrugged.
"Did I say something that accidentally brought it to mind?" Vien asked, something sad working its way into his chest
