Brennan eyes widened a small fraction, “You’re- Your’re sorry? But I thought I did something and-“
“Well, then I’m sorry I spoke harshly on the phone,” The apology was slightly forced from him, and Brennan knew that Jay was doing it for him, and Brennan really did apreciate it, but Brennan stared at Paris in slight disbelief. She was apologizing for something she hadn’t done either. He studied her face for any insincerity. He found none, but… He became a little lost as he realized how pretty she was, the way her hair curled, her beautiful doe eyes, and the simple shape of her lips… Brennan brought himself back to reality when he realized Jay had kept talking, “And just know that I only said what I said because I thought you were just trying to make him feel bad.”
“Why would I want to do that? Madylin might have. But that’s because because she was trying to protect me. As I’m sure you’re doing for Brennan. And I’m sorry she said whatever she said. And that she came after you guys for something you didn’t do and had no control over. Vanessa’s crazy and it’s not your fault. I’m sorry.” She said bringing her hands up to her face.
why do I ramble? Why do I talk so much? I’m so friggen annoying! she thought.
“Don’t be. You did nothing wrong,” Brennan assured her as he slowly brought his hands to her forearms so he could tug her arms away from her face. He gave her a small smile, “Vanessa isn’t a good person because of what she did. I’ll tell her off next time I see her,” In truth, Brennan had always hoped to tell her off, but escecially after what happened, “She shouldn’t have been rude and I had no idea that she- that she’s been so rude. I’m sorry.”
Brennan let his hands drop to his sides. He was glad that she was okay. That he still had a chance with her. He smiled.
She let her hands drop to her sides. “Please stop saying you’re sorry. You didn’t do anything wrong. And even if… if… if what Vanessa said was true you still wouldn’t have done anything wrong.” She paused. “I mean I’m glad it’s not but that’s besides the point” she mumbled.
Brennan released a small laugh as it all came believable. She truly didn’t fault him. He wanted to kiss her just for that. Brennan felt immense heat rise to his cheeks at the thought. He tried to shake the thought away and said, “Thank you, Paris. I’m happy you- I really like you Paris,” Brennan confessed shyly, looking at the ground rather than her reaction. Jay spared him by abrubtly coughing from his seat. Brennan felt more heat rise to his face.
(Payten, would you mind if little ol me posed an idea?)
(Maybe Jay could have a crush on Brennan, so he get jealous and protective when Brennan likes Paris…? (Although Jay’s feelings aren’t returned by Brennan))
(It’s funny you say that, so this is based on a vacation I recently took. And my best friend and I actually thought one of his friends was gay. But that’s a good idea.)
“Sorry uh Jay.” Paris said, “maybe we should take this conversation to my place, where we don’t have an um audience” Paris said in a low voice so Jay couldnt hear her.
(Really? That’s hilarious [Also, this will be my last post since I need to get up at 3:50am tomorrow…))
“Um, yeah…” Brennan replied, glancing at Jay, “I’m going to go out for a bit,”
“Well at least get changed first,” Jay pointed out, raising his eyebrows, “Unless-”
“No!” Brennan interrupted his friend immediately, heat, yet again, pushing it’s way to Brennan’s face. He looked apologetically at Paris, “I’m going to- I need to-“ Gosh, his mouth wouldn’t work right, “I will change,” He finally got out with a grimace.
“I’m sure he preferred you wait outside, Miss Paris,” Jay said pointed, watching Brennan with a glint of amusement in his eye.
Paris had been holding in laughter and let it go as she opened the door.
“First of all, please do that more often that was hilarious. And second of all, you might need some ice for the heat in your face there Brennan. You’re pink” she stepped out before they boys could say anything else. Paris leaned on the railing outside the door, waiting for Brennan.
(Good night! I can’t say I blame you for staying up late when you have to get up early. I do it all the time.)
Brennan closed his eyes, walked to the bed, and flopped face first in the most inelegant, ungraceful way possible. He released a sigh then said with his voice muffled, “I’m a mess, I wouldn’t be surprised if this was all just a prank on me and she’ll be gone by the time I get out there.”
He heard Jay laugh, “I’ll go pick out some nice clothes for you, hon,” He felt the bed sink as Jay sat down and threw some clothes on top of Brennan’s back, “Shake it off, sugarplum, she’ll still be waiting for you outside,” Jay continued in a mock motherly voice. Brennan rolled over with a groan then changed. Jay brushed off Brennan’s shoulder with a smile, clearly pleased at what clothing he picked out for him, “Look at my handsome munchkin! Sneaking away with a girl into the night!” He exclaimed, keeping up the motherly voice. Brennan once again felt heat rise to his cheeks -curse the pink tint he was sure was there- and huffed a breath. Jay muttered “You little virgin,” under his breath and Brennan immediately, pointedly, plugged his ears until he slipped out the door to see Paris, still waiting for him as Jay assured.
Brennan scratched the back of his head and said awkwardly, “Lead the way.”
“Right this way Mr. I’m always embarrassed” she said noticing his face was a shade of pink again. She walked down a few doors and unlocked hers and held the door open for Brennan to follow her in.
Brennan went into the room, still embarrassed but relieved that the heat was fading from his cheeks as he laughed. He let his shoulders relax as he entered the room.
“So. You and Vanessa? It’s made up?” She said going over to the drawers a pulling out one of her dads hoodies that was military green and sad Marines on the back, and a pair of shorts.
“A nonexistent relationship,” Brennan confirmed with the nod of his head. He still couldn’t believe she’d pretended to be his girlfriend…
“Okay. Well she sure seems to think it exist” she said walking into the bathroom and shutting the door, quickly sliding off the dress she had been wearing and slipping on the shorts and hoodie. She walked out, dress and sandals in hand and set them down on a chair and sat down on her bed.
“She thinks wrong,” Brennan remarked. He was tired of Vanessa acting like that. The next time he saw her…
“Apparently I did too” she said looking down at her crossed legs.
“Now what do you mean by that?” Brennan asked skeptically. He had to admit he was getting tired of being accused for returning Vanessa’s feelings…
“Because I thought it was true. And obviously Mads did too, other wise out good friend Jay wouldn’t have went off on me.” She said looking up.
“Well, Vanessa and I aren’t a thing,” Brennan stated plainly when there could’ve been a bite to the words, “Isn’t that all that matters?”
“Well that’s what got us in this whole mess in the first place. And I have feeling it’s going to happen again, or something similar anyway.” Paris said pointedly.
“I am going to tell her I don’t want her to act like that,” Brennan pointed out with a frown.
“Well I don’t think there’s anything you can do to make her stop. You don’t control her.” She said, a matching frown on her face. “My spiteful self already conjured up a plan to make her stop.” Paris added with a wicked grin on her face.
Brennan’s eyebrows raised but then he jested, “I don’t want to harm her.”
“I didn’t say harm her! I just meant hurt her feelings god. Im not that cruel!” She said throwing a pillow at Brennan hitting him square in the face.
Brennan grinned and threw the pillow right back at her. A mischievous, adventurous glint showing in his eyes.
She dodged the pillow. “You did not just throw that at me!” She said standing up.
“I do believe I did,” Brennan said, standing up with casual elegance and a small grin.
