"Tho, wha ah we doin' today?" Ella asked with a mouthful of fluffy pancakes.
"Tho, wha ah we doin' today?" Ella asked with a mouthful of fluffy pancakes.
"I don't know about this morning, but I was going to take you on a date tonight," Fox replied offhandedly as he started on his pancakes.
Ella swallowed and said, "Well, sounds good. A relaxed day. No assignments. And don't you dare even think about paperwork."
Fox grimaced. He really needed to finish that work, but it could wait. He wanted to spend the day with his wife, not doing paperwork.
"All right," he mumbled around a mouthful of food.
"But really, you've been working too hard. My dear old mum used to say 'Work hard, but know your limits.' " she said, her Scottish accent becoming more prominent than the American accent she had developed over time. "Besides, I can't have you working all the time, you need a break."
"I know, Ella. I know," Fox sighed, reaching across to place his hand over her's. "And I'm sorry I've been working so much. It's just… I just want to be able to provide for you…"
"When we have the exact same job and we get payed even when we aren't working if they don't have anything for us to do anytime soon?" she asked sarcastically.
Fox shrugged. "I know. I know… I'm sorry," he murmured, squeezing Ella's hand. "But I promise, there will be no work today. We can do whatever you want, and then we're going out tonight."
"I honestly want to just sit around all day doing nothing, to be honest." she giggled. "But we probably should do something other than sit around all day."
"Well, my lovely bride, what would you like to do, then?" Fox asked, standing up and grabbing both of their empty plates. "We could go to a movie, or go dancing, or… I don't know…"
"Dancing might be nice." she said. "Or a movie. We seem to get a lot of off days with such an unstable job." she laughed.
Fox set the dishes in the sink then walked back over to Ella. He took her hands in his and gently pulled her up, a goofy smile on his face.
"Dance with me?"
"I would be delighted to, Mister Elsworth-Elliot." she said in a good imitation of a posh accent.
Fox started to quietly sing Thinking Out Loud by Ed Sheeran, placing his right hand on Ella's waist and holding onto her hand with his left.
"When your legs don't work like they used to before
And I can't sweep you off of your feet
Will your mouth still remember the taste of my love
Will your eyes still smile from your cheeks"
"You old romantic." she smiled.
"You love it, and you know it," Fox laughed before continuing his song.
"And darling I will be loving you 'til we're 70
And baby my heart could still fall as hard at 23
And I'm thinking 'bout how people fall in love in mysterious ways
Maybe just the touch of a hand
Oh me I fall in love with you every single day
And I just wanna tell you I am"
"I love you, Fox." she said. "I always will. Whenever I say I love you, know that I mean it. Those words belong to you now, and nobody else."
Fox smiled and pulled Ella closer. "I love you, too, Ella. More than you could know," he murmured, letting her go. "I'll be right back."
He stepped away and went into their room, grabbing his phone and a speaker and bringing them back out to where Ella was waiting. Finding the song, he played it from where he had left off. He took his wife by the waist again, grinning at her.
"So honey now
Take me into your loving arms
Kiss me under the light of a thousand stars
Place your head on my beating heart
I'm thinking out loud
Maybe we found love right where we are"
Ella spun Fox around, laughing. "I'm a pretty good dancer if I do say so myself." she said .
"Hey!" Fox laughed. "I'm supposed to spin you!" He did so, pulling her closer and looking down into her eyes.
"Who says? I'm sorry if I threatened your male ego." she joked.
"No, you didn't. I just wanted to spin you," Fox explained, leaning forward so his forehead rested on hers.
"Fair enough."
Fox pulled Ella as close as he could.
"Are you enjoying the dance?" he whispered, his lips right next to her ear.
"Yes, very much." she smiled, leaning forward and putting her head on his shoulder.
"Good. I'm glad," Fox murmured, pressing a soft kiss to his wife's neck. He rested his chin on her shoulder as they continued to slowly sway along with the music.
"I hate to admit it, but I can't wait to get back to work. I'm bored." Ella said.
Fox chuckled, pulling back to look at Ella. "Do you want to go see a movie, then?" he asked.
"Sounds great."
"Anything, in particular, that you'd like to see?" Fox asked as he moved to the counter to stop the music on his phone.
