"Will you at least stay for a while?" Madeline asked quietly as she sat up in her bed.

Cameron sighed and smiled. "Of course." He sat down in a chair by her bed.

Madeline gave Cameron a small smile. "I hate being sick."

"I know you do." Cameron answered softly.

"Could you…uh, get me some of the cough syrup from my bathroom?" Madeline asked before coughing a couple of times.

Cameron stood up and complied, bringing it back to her in seconds.

Madeline coughed a bit more as she took the medicine from Cameron. She held it for a moment, simply staring at it, before looking back up at Cameron.

"Would you get water, too?"

Cameron ran out and came back with water. "Here you go."

"Thanks," Madeline whispered, taking it from him. "I hate this stuff."

Cameron sighed as he sat back down. "I know you do."

"It tastes terrible," Madeline continued, not moving it any closer to her mouth.

"Madeline. Just take it and get it over with."

Madeline glared at the offending liquid for a moment before groaning, "Ugh, fine."

She shook her head and finally downed the cough syrup and washed it down with a few gulps of water.

Cameron sighed. "Alright. How much longer do you want me to stay?"

"However long you want," Madeline mumbled, leaning back into her bed and closing her eyes.

Cameron nodded, deciding to stay until she was asleep.

Madeline opened one of her eyes and smiled at Cameron. "Thank you," she whispered, then started to drift off.

Cameron nodded. "Always."

(Nat… Wow…)

After a few minutes, Madeline dropped into sleep. Her breath rasped in her throat as she slept, tossing and turning in her bed.

Cameron frowned and stood up, not wanting to leave Madeline but having to.

Madeline coughed a little as she made herself breakfast. She pulled eggs, cheese, and sausage out of the fridge to make an omelette.

Dangit, I have classes today… she thought with a groan.

Cameron sat at the kitchen table with his grandparents and Iris. He wondered worriedly if Madeline was okay.

Madeline sighed and went back to her room to grab her phone.

MADDI: Hey, Cam? Could you get my assignments from my classes? Please?

Cameron looked down at his phone when it buzzed.

CAMERON: Yeah, of course Mads.
