Vin's breathing regulated, and it was safe to presume he was asleep.
Vin's breathing regulated, and it was safe to presume he was asleep.
Vien breathed out a sigh of relief as he realized Vin had fallen asleep. Slowly, he slid out from next to Vin. He looked around for a moment before finding a piece of paper and a pen. "On business, back soon. Vien," he wrote quickly before setting it on the table. He put his shoes on before walking to the door, giving one last glance at Vin before slipping out
Ruby trotted down the steps with Baal on her back. She wandered over to the sleeping Vin and hopped up next to him. He threw an arm around her and shoved his face into her bristly soft fur, with Baal on top of them both.
Vien reached into his pocket, taking a clip-on radio out and clipping it onto his ear. It crackled to life, and a suave, accented voice came over the radio. "About time, Vien. I was starting to wonder why you weren't responding to me," the voice hummed.
"Get to the point, Damascus," Vien huffed as he made he teleported himself to his house. He sat down for a moment, ignoring the dizziness.
"Vien, Vien, always to the point. She's on point, and you have tonight to take care of her," Damascus hummed before his voice cut out
Ruby barked but Vin didn't stir. Once again, he was locked in a nightmare. It was of a man that looked similar to himself; he was just talking.
"Of course… you'll need to look out for that too."
Vin heard himself say, "Yeah, but why are you telling me this?"
Vien took the radio off his ear before setting it on the table. A hologram appeared, displaying a tall, attractive-looking woman with piercing red eyes. Vien held a hand out, flicking through her file before deciding on a plan. He closed the hologram before getting up and walking into his room
"You just have to know that I'm always going to be here for you. Do you understand?"
"Of course I do. You always tell me that."
Vien walked to his closet, where he opened it and pulled a sizeable duffel bag out. He opened it for a second, making sure all the equipment he would need was in it before slinging it over his shoulder. He closed his closet before grabbing his car keys and walking outside. He got into his car, starting it before rolling out of the driveway
"And I just want you-"
"Wait… you're not going to… Mat! No!"
Mat shook his head. "I'm sorry."
Vien drove across town, where he pulled up at what appeared to be a private club. He parked his car, stepping out and putting his glasses on. He walked towards the line of people, where he was stopped by a guard. He simply handed them a hundred dollar bill before walking inside. He was suddenly bombarded by neon pink and blue lights, music blaring throughout the entire building
"You told me different. You said they weren't hurting you."
"I… thought I was telling the truth."
Vien walked towards the back, where he found the woman from the hologram sitting at a table in the corner of the second floor. She looked extravagant, and those red eyes seemed to pierce right through Vien. It was a shame she'd have to die. "A word, madam?" Vien asked, extending a hand towards the woman
"You can't! What about your life and future? What about me?"
Mat shook his head dejectedly and didn't respond.
"Who's asking?" The woman asked, her British accent thick as she glanced at Vien's hand.
"Argo. And I'd like a word," Vien repeated, his voice lowering dangerously. "Don't make me repeat myself again." The woman's eyes widened in recognition and fear. Slowly, she got to her feet, ignoring Vien's hand before allowing him to lead her to a back room
"You know I can't. But, you're stronger. You can do it."
"I can't without you Mat. I'm not… strong enough!"
Vien led the woman into a quiet room, obviously meant for less than PG things. It was soundproofed and lockable, and Vien latched it behind them. The woman sat down on one of the lavish seats, eyes trained on Vien. "I'm sure you know why I'm here," he began, moving the hem of his shirt to expose the handgun tucked into the waistband.
"You're Damascus' lap dog, of course I know why you're here," the woman countered, her voice sultry as she laid back against the back of the seat. "What do I owe him this time, a lap dance? He's got a thing for us oddities, you know. Makes me wonder if you've gone a round with him," she said, her voice taking on a teasing edge
"You are strong enough. You can't wait, though. You need to do it as soon as possible."
"Why… why can't you stay alive and help me? I've tried to reach through to you!"
"I'm not… I'm not prepared to, Vin. I can't."
Vien's gaze turned cold. "I suggest you shut your mouth before I put a bullet through those pretty lips of yours," he bit out. The woman simply chuckled as she leaned back.
"So, what does dear old Damascus want? I hear he's collecting deals far more lately," she asked.
"Your contract is up, and I'm here to collect. You should know this," Vien said, and the woman's smile fell
"You have to, Mat. I… I don't know if I…"
"You can. Look, take Ruby." A puppy-sized Ruby barked at his heels.
"I… You love Ruby!"
"Of course," the woman responded. "So this is where it ends, I suppose. I hope you remember how to kill a Lonakke," she sneered.
"Gold bullets. You can only be killed by the one thing your species adores," Vien answered coldly.
"Pretty boy's been doing his research, hasn't he?" the woman chuckled. Vien pulled the gun from his waistband, attaching the silencer before pointing it at the woman's chest.
"You talk too much," he said before shooting her in the heart
(wait he points it to her head… and shot her in the chest?)
"Take Ruby. Go."
"I can't! You love Ruby!"
Mat picked up the puppy and shoved her in Vin's arms. "Go. Now. They're coming. Don't tell anyone the truth okay?"
"Alright! M-Mat…" Tears spilled over in his past self's eyes.
(oops, didn't realize what I did lmao)
The woman slumped against the seat. Vien set the gun back in his waistband before walking over to her. He adjusted the woman's body, using a spell that left no trace of him as he made her look like she was just sleeping. He crossed a hand over the bullet wound in her chest before walking out the door and out of the club
"Vin… it's okay." He kneeled and put a hand on his chest. "I'll always be here for you. No matter what happens. If anyone asks you what happened you'll say…"
"You…" Vin swallowed back his tears. "You committed suicide. AND YOU ARE! SACRIFICING YOURSELF TO THEM!"
Vien sat back in his car, taking a deep breath as he looked down at his watch. The job had only taken an hour or so, and if he was lucky Vin would still be asleep. He turned the car on, pulling out of the parking lot before beginning to drive
"Vin… calm down…"
"I WILL NOT! YOU'RE BEING A FOOL! THINKING YOU CAN JUST… JUST THINK THAT THEY'LL JUST TAKE YOU! THEY'RE ANIMALS!"
Vien drove towards Vin's house, eventually pulling up in front of it. He got out of the car, teleporting a container of ice cream to him to make it look like he had only left to go to the store. He walked up to the door, opening it silently before walking to the table. He took the note he had left, crumpling it up and shoving it in his pocket before setting the ice cream on the table
"Vin. I need to. If I don't they'll hunt you, and we can't have that. You need something you need to do."
"I… I don't care… I want to go running through time with you! I don't want to lose the only friend I have left from them."
Vien turned to Vin, concern quickly crossing his features when he realized the other seemed to be in distress. He sat down next to Vin, a hand moving to shake Vin's shoulder gently. "Vin? Vin, are you okay?" he asked gently
"Vin… you just need to… Vin… Vin… VIN!" And with the third shout of his name that wrapped oddly around his cousin's Vin jolted awake, gasping, sweating and crying.
"Oh lord, Vin, are you alright?" Vien asked frantically, immediately wrapping his arms around Vin when he saw him crying. "I shouldn't have left, I'm so sorry."
