"You have to be," M growled and set the plate down. He crossed his arms and looked down his nose at her. "What's wrong? You've been up here for a week straight."

"No I don't have to be. And I do what I want, you don't have to be concerned."

"I have every right to be concerned, North." M sat down on the bed next to her.

She didn't reply but turned away from him, her knuckles clenched tightly in her lap.

M frowned and his haughty blue eyes glistened behind the sheet of black hair. "I can find the truth, North. There's no need to hide it."

"So you know what it feels like to wake up every morning not motivated to do anything with your life because you know that you shouldn't be alive and there's nothing you can do to shake that feeling."

"Yes. I know… North, I know a lot about everything. That feeling is the most I understand because I genuinely feel it."

"But you can't say it's the same. You have someone, you've lived through it. You can't say that about me." Her voice broke on the last word.

"You chase them away. I saw what you said to Zackary. He's stubborn and an ass. He will truly live out what you say." M put a hand on her shoulder. "You just have to forget about him. He's just bringing you down."

She reached up and took his hand off her shoulder. "I chase them away because I usually end up hurting them."

M shook his head. "You hurt them more by chasing them away then predicting that you'll hurt them."

"You can't know that."

"I can. I've done it multiple times before, and learned from my mistake."

"I'm. Not. You." She growled.

"I know you aren't," M growled. His eyes flashed as if he were implying something.

"Then stop comparing your problems to mine."

"If you're trying to push me away, it's not working. I'd recommend that you fix your goddamn game and actually pull your head out of your ass. Is that treating you like an adult? I think so." He nodded.

"I'm past help M so just stop trying because this," North stood up, "is not helping. I'm destined to live the rest of my life alone, even if I leave this place nobody would want me and my fucked up head anyway. Actually I think it would be a good idea if I left because I don't need you and you don't need me." She left the room, slamming the door behind her.

M narrowed his eyes and didn't rise to go after her. "Very well. I chose to reach out and got my hand butchered off as a result." His voice cracked and he bit his tongue, ignoring the constriction of tears in his throat.

North went to the clearing, hoping to find Zackary there, only to realize he was gone too. Her instincts however, took her to his house, where she was standing, not wanting to go inside.

The house looked cold and empty. A loud thump and a curse that sounded very real and human woke North up from her trance.

North took a couple steps toward the house, her eyes narrowed. Zackary?

There was no familiar voice to greet her, but she heard his familiar, mocking laugh.

North shifted into a fly, going in through a window at the back of the house. She turned back into her human self once she was inside.

"Dammit, I can't believe you tripped me!" A high pitched male voice screeched.

North stumbled a couple steps back, surprised by the voice, which was not one she recognized.

"Of course I tripped you." Zackary's deeper voice purred.

Zackary who the fuck is that?

Zackary didn't respond, he just started cackling again at the poor soul.
The 'poor' soul stood up and growled in a high pitched voice, "Why are you here, anyway? I thought you were going to look for Ari!"
