“Guys.” Thalia said through gritted teeth. “What are you doing?”

“Enjoying the beautiful new company,” Rigel said with a feral grin at Prince Ren whilst he wiggled his eyebrows.
Prince Ren laughed it off, then gave a smile that would sweep anyone off their feet when he looked at Thalia, “Why thank you, but I’m just fortunate to sit next to such a beautiful lady.”

Thalia practically fell out of her chair. “Um…thankyou?” She cursed herself for phrasing the last few words like a question.

Prince Ren gave her another dashing smile, “So what brings you here to this country? I’m am on… I guess you could say diplomatic reasons, but what about you?”

Nula smiled deviously. “We’re here for—

“A competition.” Draco replied before Nula could make up a Twisted reason for being here.

Prince Ren raised his eyebrows, “A competition? I didn’t here of it, could you enlighten me?” He smiled, glancing at Thalia. It was evident who the prince’s favorite was. Kyle was internally screaming about it.

Rvan sat down between Skylar and Thalia. (For reference, the table order of ‘who sits next to who’ is: Rvan, Thalia, Kyle, Nula, Gregory, Clay, Edwin, Kan, Ramell, Ebony, Emora, Rigel, Draco, Skylar. (It’s a circle table btw)). They ordered their food and made some small chat.

“The Official are holding a competition for all of the dramans in their country and the winners get to be their elite bodyguard along with an elite salary,” Draco leaned closer to the prince, “You didn’t hear that from me.”

“Really? Ooo la la, are all of you competing?” The Prince asked, looking in surprise at Thalia. Emora wanted to roll his eyes. Rigel wanted the prince’s attention. It was all very comical from Rvan’s perspective. Natalia agreed.

“Really? Ooo la la, are all of you competing?” The Prince asked, looking in surprise at Thalia. Emora wanted to roll her eyes. Rigel wanted the prince’s attention. It was all very comical from Rvan’s perspective. Natalia agreed.

“Yes,” Thalia squeaked as she looked down at her toes.

The prince smirked, then waved over a waiter, “This calls for a célébration, bring us one of your finest delicacies, I will buy!” The waiter rushed away, the Prince laughing lightly and kept on glanced at Thalia. Kyle was looking fairly dejected, staring hopelessly at Thalia.

Thalia felt heat rush into her cheeks. She couldn’t believe a prince was actually speaking to her right now.

The possibility that she of all people caught his eye seemed so impossible.

The meal went by quickly, half of it the prince telling stories from his home country and subtly complementing Thalia in some way. By the end of the dinner, Draco and Ramell stood and stretching, leading the protèges to do the same. Prince Ren smiled and bade them goodnight, wishing Thalia in particular a lovely evening, and said he hoped to see them again.

Thalia had woken to the sound of fist banging against the door. Her flew upen and she instantly sat up. Images of the Council, their viscous hounds and father’s fearful bulging eyes—after his skull had hit by one of their batons—flashed threw her mind as her gaze fixed on the door the lied ourly a few from the end of her mattress. Fortunately, Skylar was already in her feet. The ice draman quickly peered through the door’s peek hole.

“Who is it?” Thalia hissed to Skylar.

Standing on the other side of the door was a man in a sharp tux. He held and envelope stamped with the royal seal and fancy script written on it, addressing who the letter was for.

Skylar ignored Thalia’s question and quickly snatched the letter. As soon as her sapphire eyes scrolled over the envelope’s fine lettering, she sneered and tossed the letter in Thalia’s direction.

“Gee thanks,” Thalia replied as she reached for the note. Once Thalia noticed the envelope’s fancy lettering, her heart skipped a beat. Ever so carefully she tore the envelope and pulled out the small sheet of paper tucked inside…

Prince Ren wanted to spend time with her. A legitimate prince enjoyed her company. The excitement the realization brought her made her heart flutter.
“Um—um—I mean-yes? It will only take a minute,” Thalia replied as she leapt out of bed and grabbed a pencil.
