Dani gasped as Mackenzie landed on her lap. "Ha!" Mackenzie said to Ellis, touching Zander's shoulder to make her point.

Ellis's wings lost a few bits of shedding downy feathers. In a blink, the eight-year-old tripped and fell straight onto his face.

Mackenzie got down and put her hand on Ellis' shoulder. "Awe you okay?"

Dani hid her face in Zander's shoulder. "I'm going to die of cuteness." She stated.

Zander laughed as Mackenzie touched his shoulder," Don't worry you'll be closely followed by me."

Ellis pushed himself up on his arms, looking stunned. "…ow," he sniffled, "I-I think I broke my face I think," he touched his nose and forehead. It looked fine.

Mackenzie laid down on the ground so that she could look into Ellis' eyes. "I tink you look okay. But youw heart is huwting awittle."

Ellis blinked at her again. Then frowned very deeply.

"What." Mackenzie said, squinting her eyes.

Zander looked at Dani and motioned to Mackenzie, "So what are her powers, she seems really insightful."

Peter lifted his head to groggily look over, then shift off the couch to hug Ellis when he started to cry.

A nurse came over and jabbed Ace with some sedatives despite Ace's protests and he fell into a drug-induced sleep.

"Oh. She can like, feel other people's emotions, and inflict positive emotions. And she can like, literally see you heart. It's amazing and hilarious." Dani explained.

"Oh, don't cry!" Mackenzie said. She put her hand over his heart, inflicting happiness and calmness on him.

Peter pet Ellis's head, "Sorry," he felt the need to apologize.

Ellis covered his freckled face.

"Why are you crying??" Mackenzie asked, freaking out internally. "I'm sowwy if it was my fauwlt."

"That's sounds hilarious, awesome, and frightening. " Zander said chuckling and shifting uncomfortably.

"No, it's not your fault," Peter reassured. "We, ah…" he half laughed somberly, "Our father was abusive..or, he was really mean," he explained gently and clearly.

Dani laughed. "Why frightening?"

"Oh." Mackenzie nodded. "Tat's why he's bwoken?" She asked Peter. As she asked him, she started creating a ball of light in her hand, which was a ball of positive emotions.

"Yes," Peter sighed, "For some reason my father enjoyed hurting just Ellis.. I could never defend him because I was trying to find food for mom and us…"

Ellis hid inside his black wings.

(awww…This is so cute!)

(I know,right? I love writing Mackenzie.)

(I'm just imagining Mackenzie's reaction to my character Maroon.)

(Mackenzie would stare up at him in amazement, then she'd pull a Dani and be like, "You're heart is so broken! What happened to you?" Then she'd proceed to try to fix him.)

Mackenzie held the ball out to Ellis. "Take it. It wiw make you feew a wittle bettew!"

He peeked out from his blackxfeathered curtain, looking tearfully skeptical.

(He doesn't even really have a heart anymore, the blood running through him never stays long, so he doesn't even have his own blood)
