Darren laughed in sudden realization, “We missed Coopers birthday….”
Darren laughed in sudden realization, “We missed Coopers birthday….”
Lillian looked at him, "Wait what? Is birthday is when?'
"October 11th," Darren was laughing.
Lillian chuckled slightly, "We missed it by a long shot."
Darren smiled, "Oops,"
Lillian had a small faded smile on her face, "Yeah. Oops."
"Okay, what is it about December. You seem bummed out,"
"In the past December has always meant bad things. So I just naturally associate December and birthday and bad," Lillian froze. Fuck, she had said birthday.
"Birthday," He said as a statement more than a question. Did he even know her birthday…. Did she know his?
Lillian wanted to curl up and hide in the jacket, so she did. Her birthday was always a sore subject, literally. It was the worse day of abuse from her mom and it didn't help being on the winter solstice. The fucking darkest day of the year. Even though she didn't have to worry about her mom this year she….. Fuckkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk.
Darren sighed, "Sorry,"
Lillian said quietly, "Sorry."
"You have no need to be sorry honey. I just didn't mean to bring it up."
Lillian looked at him her eyes slightly wide and scared, "Are you sure?"
That you have nothing to be sorry about? More than sure,"
Lillian wrapped her arms around him and sighed against him, "Okay."
Darren put an arm around her and held her close, he didn't understand but he a pretty good idea. Besides if he was meant to know he trusted she'd tell him.
Lillian forced herself not to cry as she said, "December 21st. That's why I hate December. That's why I hate birthdays. The day my mom was the worst."
Darren nodded, that's what he thought. He hugged her a little tighter, "That makes sense but you don't have to worry about that now,"
Lillian couldn't help but sob slightly, "I-it wasn't just her on that day."
"Your father?"
Lillian nodded once, "Yeah. Him."
"Don't think you have to worry about that either,"
Lillian looked back up at him with big eyes, "Promise?"
"I promise," he met her eyes.
Lillian smiled and nuzzled against his chest, "Thank you."
He sighed, "Of course,"
Lillian let out a long sigh, "Still sorry."
"Still shouldn't be,"
Lillian laughed slightly, "Okay."
