Dusty flew over and sat beside Maddox, shifting back into her human form so she could speak to him. "You okay?" she asked, looking at him gently.

Maddox shifted back as well. "Yes, I'm fine. It's just… I never really asked him. You know, about my parents. So all that information… that's not just a story he tells to everyone who's willing to listen. I hadn't ever heard anything about my parents before, really."

"So that was the first time you'd heard that? Oh, gosh, I'm so sorry. I thought you'd known something, or else I wouldn't have mentioned it," Dusty apologized, frowning slightly. She looked down at her lap and played with some fire in her hands.

"No, don't worry about it. I was bound to hear it at some point." Maddox subconsciously conjured a few snowflakes, which floated softly to the ground. A creature that appeared to be a rabbit with antlers hopped up to him, and he stroked its back.

(They just have contrasting powers, lol.)

Dusty watched the snowflakes fall, a small smile playing on her lips. She shook her head, causing her frown to return.

"Well, I'm still sorry," she said. "You should have heard that on your own, and not because I was too curious to keep my mouth shut."

"I'll be alright, and I'm sure you'll get over it." Maddox caught a few of the snowflakes, watching them melt in his palm. "Delicate little things, snowflakes." He said thoughtfully, letting the water fall to the ground. "Rather like people, really. A single snowflake can't do much of anything, but there's strength in numbers. Start gathering more and more snowflakes, and soon you've got snow. Gather snow, you've got a snowstorm. And if you get enough snowflakes together in one place… well you've got a force to be reckoned with." A cold wind blew through Maddox's hair.

"That's very true," Dusty agreed. "But if you add some heat to the mix–" She put her hands out in front of her and let the fire in them grow until it was the size of a softball. "–then the snow turns to rain."

Maddox nodded, running his hand through the water and frosting it over as he went. "Fire and ice… complete opposites that somehow compliment each other. I suppose it's like the color wheel. Opposite colors are called complimentary colors, like purple and yellow, or blue and orange."

"Yeah," Dusty concurred, playing with her fire. "It's pretty amazing, isn't it?"

"It's certainly interesting. 'Opposites attract', I suppose." He froze a patch of water.

Dusty blinked. "I guess that's true… Huh. Isn't life interesting that way?"

Maddox nodded, shredding blades of grass subconsciously. "I wonder what it might've been like… if my parents had stayed, you know."

"Maybe… Maybe it was better this way," Dusty suggested, offering him a somewhat sad smile. "Who knows, maybe Koprin raised you the way you were meant to be raised. Maybe there was a reason behind it."

"Perhaps… but one can't help but wonder what things 'might have been'." He laughed weakly. "From what I've heard, they weren't particularly magnificent, but I'd have liked to meet them at least."

Dusty nodded. "I get that. I'd be curious about what my parents were like, too, if I hadn't known them.

"I'd like to meet your parents sometime… I'm sure they're lovely."

"Yes, my dad is great. I think my mom would have liked you," Dusty said, letting a flame spiral up her arm.

Maddox smiled softly, watching the flame. Something inside him made him want to get closer to her, but he kept his distance for the time being.

Dusty looked up from the fire swirling around her arm and noticed Maddox watching it. She smiled at him before asking, "You wanna see something pretty cool?"

"Sure." He crossed his legs, his hair frosting over a bit. The surface of the lake around him froze solid.

Shifting into a phoenix, Dusty lifted off the ground and flew high into the air. When she was sure she was high enough, she dived back down. Once she was right above the ground, she spread her wings wide and stopped her descent. A fire lit directly beneath her, glowing flames burning bright.

"Nice! Do you want to see something pretty cool?" Maddox got to his feet in anticipation. Little flurries of snow whirled around him.

Dusty dropped back to the ground and changed back, the fire going out almost immediately.

"Sure!"

Maddox changed into a unicorn and started running. Soon, he started to… rise into the air. He seemed to be running on the air itself, but a trail of light followed after him. So maybe he was running on the very essence of light?

"Wow…" Dusty breathed as she watched Maddox running in the air.

Maddox did this for a few seconds before spiraling back to the ground, sparks flying from his hooves as he landed.

"Okay, that was seriously cool," Dusty said once Maddox had landed. She smiled at him as she watched the sparks fly.

"You think so?" Maddox said as he changed back. His hair was a bit fluffy and disheveled from transforming and the electricity.

Dusty nodded, laughing slightly at the state of his hair. "Though you might want to check a mirror or something. Your hair's a bit of a mess."

"Meh, it does that sometimes." Nonetheless, he went over to the pool and flattened down his hair some.
