“I know what that’s like,”
“I know what that’s like,”
Tara nodded. "So, did you always live around here or did you move?" She asked, changing the subject.
"I'm actually from San Francisco," Darren recognized her subject change and went with it.
"Cool! I'm from Australia, but we moved here when I was tweleve. I never lost the accent though." She said.
"That's cool," He laughed, "Why did you guys move?"
(Where does this take place?)
(Ahhmm…….A big town/city called Ocean Way near the Californian sea/ocean line I believe? Sorry my brain is a bit clouded rn and I don't want to look for the notebook I wrote the location in so forgive me if it's a little weird)
Tara fidgeted awkwardly in her seat. "I….don't really want to talk about it." She whispered.
(No that makes sense to me. Just curious)
"That's fine," Darren reassured, "I didn't really move that far to be here but my parents act like I moved across the country,"
(Sorry sorry @kat_i_am insisted that I go pester my mom for something to eat. I'm back now)
Tara nodded. "I mean…..for them it might seem far." She replied.
(AAnnnndddd now my mom wants me to help with supper. Brb)
(Heeelllllooooooooooooooo)
Tara looked out the window. "Take a right here."
Darren did as he was told, "San Fran, isn't that far away from here and my brother still lives in the same city as them so,"
(Holy cow my ankle is swollen
Wow)
Tara nodded. "Are you happy here?" She asked suddenly.
(Why?)
"I love it here, it's a lot like home so not much of a change. But I love where I live and work,"
(I was playing cops and robbers with our guests and I kicked a broomstick into my left ankle running from my little brother(who, lol, is also 9……)
Tara nodded. "That's good." She leaned forward. "Take that exit." She said, pointing towards it.
(Lol)
Darren followed her directions silence filling the car.
Tara tapped her knee nervously. "Okay, right there." She said finally, pointing to the school. And, surprise surprise, an eight year old girl who looked similar to Tara was sitting on the front steps of the school, books out on the steps beside her.
"Is that her?" Darren eyed a smaller girl who looked to be doing homework.
"Yup." Tara said as she slid the car window down. "Sara! Over here!" Sara looked up, smiled, and shoved her books into her bag. She rapidly made her way down the steps to the car. "Hello! Late again I see." Sara said jokingly as she slid into the backseat.
"Hardy har very funny Sara." Tara answered. "Darren, this is my little sister Sara. Sara, this is one of my new colleges, Darren."
"Cool! Hey Darren." Sara said nonchalantly.
"Hey," Darren smiled, "Where to now?"
"Ahmm……..could we make a quick stop at Chipotle?" Tara asked. "If it's not too much to ask."
"No not at all," Darren laughed a bit at the request but drove there anyway.
"Why are you laughing?" Tara asked. "Abby and I are working until ten tonight, and I couldn't eat lunch today!" Tara defended. Sara giggled softly from the back.
"Like 10 PM?"
(How old is her sister?)
(Eight)
Tara nodded. "Yup."
"Will your sister have a place to go?"
"She usually just stays with us and plays with the dolphins or does her homework, and there are other kids who have to come too, so she's not alone. Our boss loves her, so it's not a problem to have her there. We're planning on making a hangout place for her and the other kids who stay at the reserve late, but haven't been able to make it yet." Tara explained as she looked for the nearest Chipotle.
Darren nodded, he would have offered to watch her but she was clearly taken care of, "Do you know where we're going?"
"Right over there." Tara replied, pointing. Suddenly her phone rang. She picked it up quickly. "Hello?" She waited a few seconds. "What do you mean?" …………… "Well, were is Sara supposed to go?" …………… "Yeah, well I guess I could try to find someone to watch her…..okay then." She put her phone down. "Sooo………..apparently Sara can't be with me tonight." Tara sighed.
"Why not? I can always watch her if you want," Darren said pulling into a parking spot.
