"S'cuse me?" Tyson glared at her.

"What? Do you like Rainbow Dash better?" Lucille sighed, shaking her head.

Tyson took a deep breath, resisting the urge to slap his girlfriend, then turned to the shadow. "Um……hey?"

Lucille unknowingly (or is it subconsciously…) held her breath, wow, he's actually doing it. .-.

The shadow squinted at him.

Tyson went on. "I'm Tyson….that's Lucille….we're just passing through."

The shadow snorted. Really? How did you get here?

Tyson's eyes widened. "Lu……did you hear that?"

"… hear what? Like a wolf howl or a dog? Because I just heard the shadow talk."

"That's what I'm talking about."

The shadow rumbled. You seem surprised.

Lucille blinked, "Are people usually not surprised when a shadow talks to them?"

The shadow let out a gust of wind. I suppose they are when they're from other realms.

”See,” Lucille said, turning to Tyson, “there are living things here.”

Tyson rolled his eyes. "Fine. You were right. But does a talking shadow really count?"

“Don’t hurt his… her… their… its… feelings!”

Tyson glanced at it. "It's a shadow."

“Yeah, be r e s p e c t f u l.” Lucille huffed, totally not mocking her old teachers.

“You must always be respectful and kind to your fellow neighbors.” Lucille continued, then she scoffed, “Okay, I’m done. That was exhausting.”

Tyson squeezed her hand. "For you, absolutely."

The shadow shuffled a bit. Are you two done with the playful banter?

“Probably.” Lucille nodded, then she added, “At least, for now.”

The shadow huffed. So what are two mortals doing in this realm?

“That is a wonderful question, which I, unfortunately, do not know the answer to.”

"Neither do I." Tyson admitted.

“Yep.” Lucille said, bouncing on her heels.
