(Everyone is biting their lips!)
(Everyone is biting their lips!)
(Shakes head What would Paige think?)
(Even Belle bites her lip… Darren doesn't maybe he should)
(No, give her a minute. You'll understand, I promise.)
Lillian looked at her wide eyed, “What?”
Talia's hand shook as she pulled up the arm of her sweatshirt. Cuts much longer, more jagged, and more numerous than Lillian's stood out against her skin. "I used to do it. I did. I thought there was no way out. Then, Paige was born. I knew that I had to be a good big sister, so, slowly, I stopped. Lillian, there is hope. I promise. Please, don't do this to yourself."
Lillian studied the scars on Talia’s arms. Then the ones on her own. Some from her some from her mom. She whispered quietly, “But it feels wrong not to have the pain. I’m so used to it. It would be wrong!”
"Lillian, let me help you. Okay? Let's go to Starbucks." Talia pulled her sleeves back down shamefully and put an arm around Lillian's shoulders. (Talia and Lillian have a "big sister, little sister" relationship going on, so this is great!)
(Honestly both of them need it)
(Yus.)
(Yes it is!)
Lillian looked down and nodded. Talia could try all she wanted, but it was hard to break habits that were started ten years ago by her mother.
"Okay, let's go!" Talia tapped Darren's shoulder.
Darren turned around and stood up, "We ready?"
Lillian nodded and said softly, “Yeah.”
He took Lillian's hand with a small amount of caution, "Okay, let's go,"
Lillian held his hand tightly. She needed an anchor to stop herself from floating away.
Darren held her hand just as tight, it was clear she needed it. "So Starbucks right?"
"Yes." Talia lead them out to her white Corolla. "Climb in," she instructed, keeping a watchful eye on Lillian.
Darren took the backseat, if Lillian wanted to join him she could, or she could sit with Talia.
Lillian sat in the back seat with Darren. Talia was nice, but she needed her rock. Her teammate. Her lover.
Talia's phone rang. She looked at the screen, frowned, and opened the car door. "Uh, you do you… I'll be right back," Talia said. She shut the door and answered the phone. "Hello?"
Darren reached back for Lillian's hand that was sitting in her lap. He put his head on her shoulder.
Lillian grabbed his hand and rested her head on his. She let out a shaky breath.
"We're gonna be okay right?" He didn't mean to ask the question, but yet there it was.
"What!? No! I- No! I'm at the hospital. No, I'm fine, my- NO!" Talia yelled into her phone. Her voice cracked with hysteria and she turned away from the car so that Lillian and Darren couldn't see her face.
Lillian let out a soft sigh. His question made her worry, “Yeah we’ll be fine.”
"Who do you think she's talking to?" Darren looked out the car window, but to see her he'd have to move his head and he didn't want to.
"No." Talia whispered into her phone. "No, no, please- Please, I-" The caller hung up. Talia pretended to still be on the phone for another couple seconds to collect herself. She turned around. She opened the car door. She sat down. She put her phone in a cup holder. She did not speak. Her scars itched. NO.
Lillian shrugged with her free shoulder. Her voice was still quiet, “I don’t know. Family maybe?”
"I miss her already, it's been like, less than an hour," Darren frowned.
