"It's a bit much, isn't it?" Melantha whispers, smiling slightly.

Jay nodded. "I'm muggleborn, and never knew magic existed before now… it's a bit… surreal I suppose."

"My moms a muggle." Melanthea tells him,"My entire life was, will there be magic, or won't there?"

“Hey hey random children, I swear I’m a good person. Do any of you want rock candy?” Asteria asked, “My friend-“ she gestured to a girl across the room shaking her head and sighing, “-bet I wouldn’t dare ask you guys if you all wanted any candy. Wow my grammar is terrible.”

"I'll take a purple one." Melanthea says, grabbing one, "Now you can tell your friend that you did it."

"Candy?" Yet another probably common thing I've never had… Jay seemed clueless as to what Asteria was holding. It looks like a crystal… but I assume it's edible or something?

“… it’s crystalized sugar.” Asteria explained.

Taking a big bite out of it, Melanthea saw Jay watching her eat the candy curiously. What? Do I eat weird? Melanthea thinks. Turning her head a little she finishes the piece of candy in her mouth.

"I'll take a purple one." Melanthea says, grabbing one, "Now you can tell your friend that you did it."

“Geez manners, Kiddo.” Asteria sighed.

"T'anks!" Melanthea says in a little kid voice.

Crystallized… So it is a crystal? "It's… edible?" He asked, confused. "You're sure it is?"

"Can I grab one?" Mari asks.

“It’s edible.” Asteria nodded, “Don’t worry it’s literally 100% edible. Except for the stick, that’s wood.”

"Can I grab one?" Mari asks.

“Of course, which one?” Asteria smiled.

"I'm sure he knows that the stick isn't edible," Melanthea says sarcastically.

(Well he didn't know the thing itself was edible so ya never know)
Jay accepted one of the sticks, staring at it curiously. Stupid, you probably look like a complete idiot! They all seem to know what this is, and then there's you. Staring at it as though it were some sort of alien object.

"Uh, blue, please," Mari says, not really sure whether to take one or it Asteria will give her one so her hand ends up hovering awkwardly in the air.

"Uhh, are you gonna eat that, or what?" Melanthea asks, pointing to the green candy in the boy's hand.

Jay jumped a bit at Melanthea's voice, hesitating before trying the candy. "It's… it's good! I've never had anything that tastes quite like this before… what did you say it was?"

"Uhh, rock candy." Melanthea reminds him.

"Uh, blue, please," Mari says, not really sure whether to take one or it Asteria will give her one so her hand ends up hovering awkwardly in the air.

“Here.” Asteria said, taking the blue one and giving it to her. She turned over and yelled to her friend, “I like this one! She has manners!”

"Rock candy… how strange…" Jay examined the candy again. You're arousing suspicion! They'll ask questions! Who hasn't ever had candy before?

"Thank you, and I do try to make a good first impression," Mari says.

“Here.” Asteria said, taking the blue one and giving it to her. She turned over and yelled to her friend, “I like this one! She has manners!”

"I said thanks!" Melanthea yells in protest.

"You've never had rock candy before, Jay?" Melanthea asks.

Jay shook his head. "Or… candy, for that matter. It has a unique feeling, or flavor to it… I can't quite put my finger on it…"

"That's sugar." Melanthea laughs, "Have you really never had any sort of candy?"

"That's your teeth rotting," Mari helpfully inputs.

"Never." They're gonna ask questions, you're screwed. Well, I can't just lie can I? I wouldn't be any better than them!
