(GOOD LET'S GO)
Ferran shivered as he went down the hall to his room. He quickly got dressed and pulled his sneakers on. He grabbed his backpack and coat and raced out the door, hoping to catch Koko before the bus.
Grabbing a blueberry muffin from the counter and her backpack, Koko took off once again outside.
Ferran watched his breath puff into a cloud as he waited for Koko at the stop. It was just at the corner of their street. He spotted her heading down her front steps. "Hey Nerd!" He waved.
Koko arrived at the stop, breathless from running. "You called?" she croaked out, adjusting her jacket.
"Whoa slow down there, dude." Ferran chuckled. "My ears are still ringing from my mom chewing me out."
"Maybe she wouldn't if you actually listened a bit she wouldn't have to yell at you," she sniffed. If I stay out here for one more minute I'm going to catch a cold…
"I do listen. It's just hard to listen to something that you've heard over 50 times." He looked at her. "Why didn't you bring a scarf silly?"
"I couldn't keep you waiting too long, could I?" Koko simply explained. "Besides, I think I have one in my backpack. Lemme check." She dug through the bag, at last finding her scarf. Wrapping it around her neck, she was in bliss. Much better.
"Well you shouldn't be reckless for me." Ferran huffed.
The bus pulled up to the stop, the stop sign edging into place. The doors squealed open.
Ferran cringed. "Oh that's right. I can't sit with you today. I promised the boys that I'd sit in the back with them."
Koko raised an eyebrow, before putting on a smile, "Oh! Oh, okay. That's fine! After all, it is a promise!"
Hurrying quickly into the bus, she sat in her usual seat. Without Ferran next to her, that is. Dang it, don't feel disappointed. Just because you can't make any friends doesn't mean you should stop him.
Ferran felt terrible for agreeing to sit with the boys. She doesn't have any other friends……I'm a horrible best friend. He plopped down in the back, the other boys chattering away.
Chewing her lip with impatience, she gazed out of the window with mild interest. She wasn't complaining though, it was better than the frozen landscape outside.
20 minutes later, the bus screeched to a halt in front of the school. Ferran sprang and went to find Koko.
Koko stepped out of the bus, though waited for Ferran to come out. She wouldn't just leave without him.
Ferran hooped off the bus and jogged over to her. "Hey! I'm sorry I didn't sit with you. I'm a terrible friend."
She sighed, "You're not bounded to me, Ferran. I can do without you being by my side for a moment."
Ferran smiled. "Okay." She doesn't need me….okay….that's okay…
"We should pick up the speed. Don't want the teacher getting mad at us for being late again," she said suddenly. "Race you?"
"Yeah." Ferran grinned. "On your mark….get set…..GO!" He dashed off.
Koko raced away, yet she still fell behind. The run earlier must've really knocked the wind out of me. "You only won because I'm still waking up," she bluffed, cheeks reddening from embarrassment.
Ferran looked back and stuck his tongue out. He slipped on a patch of ice in front of the steps, his feet flying out from underneath him. He landed on the ground with a dull thud.
Gasping, Koko made her way toward him, cautious of the ice. "Ferran! Are you okay?" she grabbed his hand, intending to pull him up.
"Yeah I'm fine." He grabbed her hand, but the ice made it difficult. He ended up pulling her down. "Oh sorry!"
Koko's head bonked his as she fell to the ground. She then laughed, "It's fine! Oh, we're definitely going to be late now…"
Ferran rubbed his head and chuckled. "Yeah…..I think we have a good excuse though."
A girl ran by, but slowed as she neared them, gaping. "Oooooooo what's going on here?"
Ferran blushed.
Koko glanced at the girl, confused. "Um, nothing? We fell." she frowned at the tone of her voice. What was wrong with that?
The girl giggled. "Really? That's all?"
"Scram Maddie!" Ferran huffed. People were so annoying…
Maddie shrugged. "Okay I'll leave you two alone." She snickered again and ran up the steps.
"Well now with that over we should get up," Koko could feel the energy draining from her with that interaction. She could also feel the cold numbing her, but that wasn't important.
Ferran nodded, still blushing. He got up carefully and helped Koko up. "Ugh. My pants are soaked."
Koko peered down at her pants, unaware of Ferran's red cheeks. "Dang. Mine as well. We'll have to use our coats so we won't get the chairs soaked as well…"
