Mike sat back down, glancing at the stairs. "Speaking of which, I hope it won't take long for Bernon to recover. I'd like to get on the road soon."

“Hopefully it won’t… we’re no longer safe here.”

"Yeah. Tomorrow morning would be an ideal time to set off, if we're all ready by then. In the meantime, might as well make use of the rest of the day before it's over." He stood up. "I'm going to do some foraging while the sun's out. I'm also going to bring my stuff from the woods and stay inside tonight. That okay?"

“Hm? Oh, yeah… that’s fine.”

"Thanks." He went to the door and pulled it, open, checking the clearing for anything suspicious before he went out. "I won't go far. If something happens, make some noise and I'll come back."

“Got it, happy foraging.” In all honesty, Tanrial wasn’t really listening. She was more focused on the fact that some bottles from her supply cupboard had gone missing. Whether it was stolen, she didn’t know but she was worried.

Mike closed the door quietly as he left, and a moment later he passed the window, heading west into the trees. Silence fell.
Then, Bernon's voice drifted down the stairs. "Did someone just leave? Is anybody there?"

“It was just Mike, Bernon…” She stood up and grabbed herself a glass of water.

"Oh. Okay." The bed creaked and his footsteps slowly crossed the floor. "I'm coming down, I feel sorta better now."

“Alright, be careful though…” She finished the glass and sat back down.

Bernon limped gingerly into view, one hand hovering over his heart as if he was afraid it might fall out. He smiled bravely. "Hi. What's up?"

“Nothing, feeling any better?” She gestured to the seat bedside her.

He sank down with relief and massaged his shoulder. "Well…..My head doesn't hurt as much, and it's easier to breath now. I still feel like I've been sick for three days, but I'm definitely on the mend." He paused and glanced over. "You seem worried. Is something wrong?"

“What? No, nothing’s wrong. Everything’s… fine.” She tried her best to sound happy but it didn’t work very well.

His expression softened. "It's okay, you don't have to tell me if you don't want. Anything I can do to make you feel better?"

“It’s- there’s something wrong…” She kept her gaze down, “Those guards don’t just give up on a hunt they… they find another way. I have bottles missing from my cupboard that were not gone before we left….”

"That's not good," Bernon said, concerned. "Which potions were they?"

“Ones to enhance strength and agility, night vision and ones to give the person mind invasions…. ones I haven’t used for a very long time.”

"Uh-oh. So somebody broke in while we were gone…." He turned and frowned at the room. "Do we have some kind of way to dust for fingerprints or something? Is there a spell for that we could do?"

She shook her head, “There’s no use trying, whoever they are did a good damn job of beimg sneaky. There’s no scent of anyone but us, nothing’s been disrupted. They took what they needed and left.”

"Nobody but us…." Bernon's eyes narrowed. "What if it was Mike? I wouldn't put it past him, honestly."

“I’m not sure… someone could have masked their sent….”

"Maybe. I think we should ask him when he gets back, see if he acts shifty about it. Where was he going, anyway?"

"Hmmm. Let's keep an eye on him. In the meantime, maybe we should figure out what we're taking with us when we leave? I've got my stuff basically packed, but there's a lot of useful things of yours that should either be brought along or hidden somewhere for safe keeping."

(Same… semester change has completely ruined when I’ll be able come online)
“Yeah, I can easily take quite a few of my potions and such with us, weapons too.” She flipped the dagger she was holding.

Bernon pushed himself up out of his chair and paced around the room. "It's too bad we can't take some of this bigger stuff, like the cooking stand. My kit's a one-person deal, otherwise I'd just make soup for us while we're on the road. We'll have to be inventive, I guess. Gotta travel light."

“I wonder if there is a spell to shrink things…” She shrugged and watched Bernon pace, “Probably not, I’ve never heard of one.”

"Your guess is as good as mine on that one. Oh well, knowing how to prioritize when packing is a valuable skill. Knife, tarp, rope, dried food, water, warm clothes, something to make fire with, first-aid kit, and a compass–those are the things I always carry with me, even if I have nothing else. The extras I have upstairs are luxury items in comparison. Ever traveled cross-country before?"
