Lillian’s face was ashen. Her pulse on the lower side from the lack of blood in the system.
Lillian’s face was ashen. Her pulse on the lower side from the lack of blood in the system.
They arrived at the hospital and Darren held Lillian's hand as people rushed around him.
They carted Lillian into the emergency center and asked her friends to sit in the waiting room.
Belle stood off to the side, quietly and without much movement. Almost like a statue. "This place has too many bad memories." She mumbled, gluing her eyes to the floor so no one could see her tears.
Paige knew what she had to do. She clutched her pocket with one hand and pumped herself forward with the other. She quickly reached her destination.
Darren paced in the waiting room scratching at his stitches stressfully.
Ryan sat down next to Belle.
Paige completed her job and got a ride to the hospital. She awkwardly shifted in the doorway to the waiting room.
She sniffed and wiped her eyes, noticing the sudden company next to her. But the tears wouldn't stop. "I could have saved her. I could have." She whispered under her breath.
A doctor came out a few minutes later and searched for the group, “Who knows Ms. Phoenix?”
"Lillian?" Paige asked.
Everyone raised their hands.
Darren's head snapped up and he almost tripped running to the doctor, "That's me,"
The doctor nodded inspecting them. He turned around, “I suppose you wish to see her. Follow me.”
"Okay calm down Darren we all know her too." Belle gestured to the group behind her.
Darren nodded quickly and followed the doctor. He didn't even hear Belle.
Paige hung back. Never-
The doctor lead them to her room. Lillian laid there unconscious with stitches on all ten cuts. They had cleaned up her arms and a blood bag was attatched to supply her with the amount she had lost.
Belle turned to see Paige standing there. "Paige? You coming?"
Darren rushed to her and held her hand gently.
"Uh-um… I… you go on ahead," Paige tried.
The doctor stood by the entrance, “Do you know if the cuts were caused intentionally?”
Darren looked at the doctor and nodded. He kissed Lillian's knuckles and laid his head on the bed.
She raised an eyebrow. "You sure? You and Lilly seemed rather close, I would have thought you'd be all over her like Darren."
"I- Go…" Paige shuffled her feet.
The doctor sighed, “Tell us when she wakes up. We’ll send a therapist in to examine her mental state.”
Darren didn't pick his head up, "mmhmm"
She glanced at her suspiciously. "…Okay then." Belle walked into Lillian's hospital room with the rest of the group.
Ryan looked at Belle, "Everything okay?"
The doctor left the room. Now only if Lillian would wake up.
The thoughts of this all being his fault raced through Darren's mind again. Maybe he wasn't good enough.
