Hearing what Jay was saying, Astrid queitly asked, "Jay, are you alright. Like, I know you said you were, but are you sure?" She gently placed her hand on his shoulder, trying to get him out of his flashback.
Hearing what Jay was saying, Astrid queitly asked, "Jay, are you alright. Like, I know you said you were, but are you sure?" She gently placed her hand on his shoulder, trying to get him out of his flashback.
Jay flinched as he was touched, his arm raising as a reflex. He tensed the muscles as hard as he could, trying his best to avoid hitting Astrid. He managed not to, lowering his hand to his side again. He seemed very tense and distracted, not responding to Astrid's question.
Elide walked over to Jay, kneeling down beside him, “Jay, it’s okay… you’re alright.” She said quietly, trying to distract him from Astrid’s question.
No, no, no, no… why is she touching me? Jay held his breath, wanting to shrug her hand off but not wanting to offend her. "…W-What?" He turned his gaze to Elide, trying to distract himself.
“She’s not gonna hurt you, alright?” She held out a hand to help him up but didn’t touch him, he needed to accept her help but she couldn’t force it on him.
He hesitated for a few seconds before accepting her hand. He slapped himself as he had earlier with his free hand, trying to snap out of the flashback. It seemed that sort of pain was the only way to get out of his mind.
“Hey, you have to stop that, okay?” She said as she helped jay up to his feet.
"I-It's the only thing that works…" Please get your hand off my shoulder… He still seemed very tense, but his eyes were more focused.
Elide looked at Astrid and removed her hand, “You need to find something else that works?”
"Like… l-like what?" Jay rubbed his bruising cheek.
Elide shrugged, “I don’t know… whatever you think will work, a word maybe?”
Jay shook his head. "W-Words do nothing for me… I… only really respond to pain…"
Elide stayed silent for a minute, becuase she did the same but shook her head, “Well, you need to break that… so do I.” The last part was said barley more then a whisper.
He glanced up at Elide, but said nothing. He seemed over aware of the bruises on his arms and back.
“Come on, let’s make some more food.”
"I don't need food…" Jay's stomach growled quietly, and he turned away.
Hayes stood up from his place on the couch. "Hey, is everything alright over there?"
Elide nodded, “Yes, Jay just needs some food.” She said looking at him.
"N-No I don't! I mean… I'm fine… I'm not hungry." His stomach betrayed him again and he avoided making eye contact with Elide.
“Jay, you need to eat.” Elide said firmly.
A pink tint rose to Jay's cheeks, and he seemed guilty. He had always hated that tone. It always meant that it would escalate into yelling and then a fight, where one or both of his parents would get drunk and hurt him somehow.
Elide relaxed a little, “I’m sorry but you have to eat something, please.”
Hayes held his hand up. "If he doesn't want to eat, don't make him. I wouldn't want to eat those quesadillas either."
“Hey! Our cooking is great, but you’re right… sorry.”
(Jay: YEAH I'M AN ADULT I DO WHAT I WANT)
Jay definitely didn't want to eat, but he didn't know Elide super well. He didn't know whether she would start yelling at him or not, and he really didn't want to be yelled at. "…Fine.."
“You don’t have to if you really don’t want to… I’m sorry I-I shouldn’t force you.” Elide was embarrassed and started fiddling with the sleeve of her shirt.
"It's fine… I don't want to- er, nevermind." It's not an eating disorder, so she neednt worry about it…
“Okay… I’m just gonna go to my room for a minute, there’s… something I need to do.” She tried to smiled and moved to her room where she shut the door and locked it.
Jay watched her leave, confused. What would she need to do? Nonetheless, he decided that he wouldn't eat until she returned. Or just wouldn't eat. He hadn't quite figured that part out yet.
Hayes sighed and turned to Jay. "Welcome to the angst, bud." He smiled and walked towards the door to Elide's bedroom. He knocked on the door. "Hey, you okay in there?"
