"Kodiak… God, you have to hang in there okay? We can't lose you. We're not going to lose you." Rowan gripped tightly onto his hand, rubbing soothing circles on his palm with her thumb.
"Kodiak… God, you have to hang in there okay? We can't lose you. We're not going to lose you." Rowan gripped tightly onto his hand, rubbing soothing circles on his palm with her thumb.
"I- No…"
"We don't have time for this, Kodiak. Just follow me okay? Follow Yuki. You don't have to do anything, I promise. Just come with us." Rowan was growing desperate, tugging his hand lightly.
"Will it get you two to stop grabbing me?" Kodiak pulled his hand away gingerly and brought his knees to his chest.
Rowan withdrew her hand like she'd been burned. "Yeah, of course Kodiak. Please, just hurry." She prompted, trying to keep the hurt out of her voice.
"You guys better not ddie." Kodiak stood shakily and, looking back down the hall in the direction Nyir had last walked, pleaded for her forgiveness.
I'm sorry, Nyir. I tried to save you.
"We won't! Come on, easy now." Rowan coaxed, standing by his side in case he needed help.
( Aww and Petree is just sitting in her cell waiting for the gladiator battle)
Nyir sat silently in her apartment, her eyes closed. She wasn't calm, but she was getting there. Inhale. Exhale. Inhale. Ex- suddenly the alarms went off, blaring wildly throughout the compound. With her jaw set, she sprung into action, only pausing to grab her gun. That idiot, she thought. He's going to get himself killed!
“Kodiak! If you really don’t care about your life, I won’t force you to come with us! Because I understand! What I don’t understand is why you too want to commit sucicide! You don’t have to be like me!”, Yuki screamed into the dark. She punched the wall and it crumbled a little. An imprint of her fist was left on the wall. Just more evidence of my meaningless life.
(Omg)
Petree was going to sacrifice her life for Kodiak… no, that wouldn't work. She was going to tell Kodiak to run and then she would face the Smoke Society alone… or she could call for Yuki to help. Yuki was strong enough to break her out, but Petree wanted to be the hero in some way. She settled on telling Kodiak to run from the duel.
If she could find Kodiak, and the chances of that were next to impossible.
"Yuki!" Petree screamed. "I need you guys!"
"All this yelling. And you thought you wouldn't get caught." Nyir rounded the corner of the cells, followed by a group of soldiers. They were all armed to the teeth and they weren't happy. Nyir's eyes were fixed on Kodiak. She raised her gun, aiming it at Yuki's head. "Nice try, rebels." In a quieter voice, she whispered, "I guess you really don't trust me, Kodiak."
"I made him come. He didn't want to." Rowan was half supporting and half dragging Kodiak along. She didn't like the way he looked at Nyir. There was to much innocence in his eyes. Too much trust. This is how Yuki felt when I wanted to stay with Armand! She realized. "He's my friend and am not letting him die!" She snarled.
"I'm not letting him die either," Nyir snapped. "I protect my own. I always will, always, do you hear me? Kodiak won't die, his name will be cleared after the gladiator battle. You taking him away puts a target on his head. Harris hates rebels, but she hates traitors more."
"How can I trust someone I hardly know with my friend's life?! Look at him!" She hissed. Kodiak was red faced and tears brimmed in his eyes. Rowan gripped onto his arm tighter.
“I know I can’t trust anyone who follows President Harris! Because I know what you people have done! I’ve experienced the horrors of this place and the people in it!”, Yuki yelled back. Her fists clenched so tight they turned white. The anger showed in her eyes.
Nyir was losing her patience. Her voice reached a deadly calm. "You. Are. Not. Listening. Harris will kill Kodiak the moment he leaves the compound. Snipers, cameras, eyes everywhere. No warning. He will just die. I don't care about the two of you. But Kodiak? I care. And I will protect him."
You don’t care about about him! If you really cared about him he wouldn’t be in a cell crying with guns pointed at his friends heads!”, Yuki said, her voice filled with rage. “Don’t pretend to care!”
Rowan looked at the guns trained on Yuki's head and most certainly her own too. She loosened her grip on Kodiak, letting him make the decision.
Armand also came around the corner, his gold eyes flashing furiously. "You two may not trust her, but did you listen to my words?" He stormed in; his jacket a bit bulkier than normal, his eyes furrowed in frustration. "Rowan, have I yet given you reason for distrust? I am disappointed. Even I said that everything would be okay if you just left the damned man alone." He pulled a gun-looking device from his pockets, while Nyir had Yuki's head, he aimed at Rowan's. "Don't be idiots. Harris will never stop looking for you until you're dead if you go through with this. All of you." He cocked the weapon. It didn't look like it shot bullets.
Rowan stared at Armand, her face flushed with embarrassment and her eyes wide with fear. "A-Armand?!" She almost crossed her eyes looking at the gun type object and clutched onto Kodiak tighter for comfort.
Armand's eyes narrowed further, hurt being swallowed and covered by the severity in them. "I figured you didn't trust me." He shot without hesitation, aiming at the middle of her forehead. If the 'bullet' connected she'd find electricity coursing through her at a high voltage, hopefully rendering her incapacitated. "What we're trying to do will be easier on you in the long run." he added after squeezing the trigger.
Rowan let out a yelp of pain, collapsing and twitching on the ground. She was in pain, but otherwise unharmed. Letting out a loud whimper, Rowan gave a hurt look to Armand, tears trickling down her cheeks.
"Don't look at me like that." Armand spat, "You're the one who's broken trust here." He looked down at her, before looking away. He took a breath, refocusing himself and giving Nyir shot assist, the weapon reloading via whirling and a vortex of electricity surrounding the machine.
Rowan sniffled on the floor, curling up in a fetal position. She was absolutely terrified of being hit again. "Ar-Armand don't h-hurt them too." She begged quietly. Closing her eyes tightly. Her muscles were stiff and taunt, unwilling to move.
While he waited for The others' next actions he asked Rowan honestly, "Really, Rowan? Would you rather place your trust in someone who has yet to do anything but what's best for you, at the risk of one of your friends, or would you rather put all three of your lives in permanent risk by running now?" He growled, "What Would you Rather, Rowan?!" his eyes shifted angrily between her and the scene ahead of them.
"I just wanna go home…" She whispered. "I want everyone to be safe. I was this stupid war to be over." She opened her eyes a crack, giving Armand a defeated and empty look. "J-Just take me back to my cell." She choked on a sob, hiding her face.
“Why should she trust you Armand? You tell her to trust you, but then you shoot her! Whatever trust was left from her should be gone now!”, Yuki continued to yell. Her throat burned from all the yelling. “It was Rowan’s mistake to trust you! What makes you any different!” She hated Armand. Yuki wished Armand would be different than all of President Harris’s other followers. Wished. He also knew what it was like to live in a torture camp. He also knew what it was like to have a meaningless life. But he is just like the other followers of President Harris. I should have killed him.
Rage was boiling inside of him. "I fixed her leg, made her impervious to physical damage. When I messed up I owned my mistake and fixed it." His heart was racing, "It might have hurt but what if she died? What would I have done with myself then? I give you advice to stay away from here; tell you everything will be fine if you just leave it to me and you do this." Armand clenched his teeth, "Tell me, where did I go wrong?"
