“Alright… a Marrati.” She walked onto the field and turned back towards Bernon.
“Alright… a Marrati.” She walked onto the field and turned back towards Bernon.
He blinked. "Um….nope, never heard of it. You were right." Sighing, he drew himself into a ready position. "Alright, so, do we start this the same way as the others, with my well?"
Tanrial nodded, “Fast learner. You’re not gonna be able to picture the shift this time, you just have to trust the well.”
"Oookay." Bernon drew in a deep breath and started in. By now it was easier to find his center and get into that odd, floaty feeling. After a few minutes, he spoke. "Trust the well, huh? Should I try to…talk to it or something? Ask it what my form is?"
“In your head, maybe. But if you think about shifting it should happen.”
"Here goes." Bernon sank even deeper, trying to figure out what it might feel like to change form. Would it be painful? He hoped not. What if his form was something dumb, like a cow? Cows loved him. Maybe they could tell.
Bernon shoved those thoughts away and tried harder. His head felt heavy, and the air around him was uncomfortably warm. He should have found some shade before he started. He did his best to ignore these distractions, but he still couldn't make anything happen.
Frustrated, he began to ask Tanrial for help, but then stopped short. He hadn't spoken. He'd growled.
Opening his eyes, he looked down. It appeared that he was a giant brown bear.
“Nice, a bear. Do…” She instantly regretted this “you want me to shift into my form?”
He tilted his head, then sat back on his haunches and shrugged as if to say, "If you want".
Tanrial’s shift was quick, luckily the darker part of her shift was… asleep so she shouldn’t have any trouble. It looked much like a wolf and with the build of a lion and much, bigger. She was a pale grey colour, from the Marrati and her tail was more serpentine then anything.
Bernon stared at her, impressed. Her form was so graceful and majestic looking. He probably resembled a giant gopher with a big nose compared to her. He tried to change back into a human so he could compliment her, but realized he didn't know how. He huffed, a little annoyed.
Tanrial used her mind tick and entered Bernon’s mind to tell him how to change back Think about becoming human again, visualise yourself and you should change She told him and back away through the gates of his mind.
Bernon nodded and wrinkled his snout in concentration. After a few moments, he was back to his old self. "Wow," he said, checking to make sure he had all his fingers. "A bear? That works. Yours is awesome, by the way. I've never seen anything like it."
Tanrial shifted back as well, “Thanks. Luckily I didn’t destroy anything.”
Bernon frowned. "Was that a likely possibility?"
She shrugged, “The Marrati part of the shift can be… loud, dangerous at times and can destroy things but… it was asleep, dormant.”
"Oh. That was lucky, then. It didn't occur to me that somebody's animal form might be hard to control, but I guess it makes sense."
(I have to go to bed now, see you in the morning! ^^)
She nodded, “Yeah,” She looked up and the sun had begun to set, “We should head in, today’s been a ride.”
(See ya tomorrow!)
"I'm with you there." Bernon followed her back to the house. "I can practice more tomorrow when I've got my energy back. You know, I'd love to repay you. Maybe there's something I can teach you in return for all your help. I've picked up a lot of random skills on my travels."
Tanrial shrugged but smiled, “Sure, I’m up for that but you really don’t have to.” She lit the fire with a flick of her wrist and sat down.
"Really, I'd be glad to. What would you like to learn? I know lots of recipes, farming and gardening stuff, carpentry, a little bit of mechanics and woodwork, harmonica, trapping, fishing, foraging, first-aid, hand-to-hand, gun safety….um…..cartography, wildlife identification, Spanish, ASL, aaand bookbinding. Any of that sound useful or interesting?"
(Fair warning, I have to leave soon, but I'll be back in like an hour)
“Wow… umm, that’s a lot,” She thought for a moment, “Bookbinding, that could be useful… yeah that’s go with that.”
(All good, I have maths and music first up this morning so I might not be able to be online as much)
"Sweet. I've got some spare paper and stuff in my bag, so we can start as soon as we have something to make the cover out of. Cloth and leather both work well, although leather's more durable. Got any on hand?"
(Okay, gotta go! Seeya later ^^)
“Probably. There might be some in the attic along with a bunch of old stuff I haven’t look through for a while.”
"All right. In that case, we can–" He stopped, glancing around. "Did you hear something?"
(Is it okay if I have something happen? Aka a new character?)
“Hear what?” Tanrial was instantly on alert.
(Yis hehe… cough I hate maths cough)
Bernon stared at the darkness outside the windows. "I thought I heard….I'm not sure. Maybe it was nothing."
(lol me too XD)
Tanrial stood up and walked to the nearest window, “I- the shadows don’t really feeling anything… but they could be wrong.”
"Do you think maybe we should check–"
He was suddenly cut off by a knock on the door.
Tanrial placed a shield around both her and Bernon and opened the door.
There was a ragged, dark-haired man standing in the gathering darkness. He looked at you without smiling. "Sorry to bother you," he said. "I need a place to stay tonight. Do you have any spare room?"
