"Are you alright?" Valerie asked softly, leaning on the doorway to the forge. She didn't step in. Her emotions were fragile enough already, she didn't want painful memories to push her over the edge.

“Hmm?” Cato muttered, looking up from examining an old helmet he’d made. “Oh. Uh, yeah, I guess. I’ll be fine.”

“You will be doesn’t mean you are,” she said insistently.

“Yeah, but it means I’ll probably get there,” Cato shrugged, setting down the helmet.

“And how long will that take?”

“Probably a while,” Cato sighed, looking around the forge longingly before stepping outside. “I could get a job like this, but it won’t be this, you know?”

“Yeah,” she said gently, pulling him into a hug. “I know.”

Sage took one last look around his barracks, and slowly closed the door. He wasn’t entirely sure where everyone was meeting, so he just walked around, looking for Ari or Val or Cato.

Stella was looking for Ari. Where did her new centurion go? She had no clue what she was supposed to be doing.
