“Better than nothing.” Davis ran towards the cluster of buildings. As they neared, Davis turned back to Saffi, “Be quiet.”
“Better than nothing.” Davis ran towards the cluster of buildings. As they neared, Davis turned back to Saffi, “Be quiet.”
Saffi nodded, moving a piece of hair behind her ear that had fallen out of her ponytail from running.
“Should we stay here to see if the noise happens again, or what?” Davis whispered.
"I don't think it will happen again…I think it was a mistake," Saffi muttered in reply.
“How would we know, though? It could’ve been a mistake, but just as well have been intentional. Of course, we don’t even know if they’re going to do it again, so our best bet is to try and find the source of the noise. It would be best to stick together, safety in numbers, after all, but which way should we go…?” Davis looked around, “Unless…” Davis looked up and smiled, “We take a look from above.”
"What's that supposed to mean?" Saffi asked, looking up at the sky.
“We go to the top of the buildings for a look, it may take some time, but it’s the fastest way to view everything.” Davis explained, “I know it’s probably a stupid idea, so if you have any other ideas, that’d be great, but right now, this is all we got.”
"That's probably smart. We can see the tops of all buildings, streets, alleyways, blah blah blah," Saffi said, nodding. Saffi pointed to a tall completely white building with few windows. "That's the tallest, but it looks sketchy."
“Who said we need to go inside?” Davis smirked.
"I'm guessing you have another plan?" Saffi asked, raising an eyebrow.
“We both can climb, why not scale the building?” Davis pointed out.
"I guess that'll work…knowing my luck I'll fall off though," Saffi replied sarcastically.
“I thought you were a pro.” Davis teased.
"I never said I wasn't," Saffi said, crossing her arms. "I'm just having horrible luck today."
“Tell me about it.” Davis smirked, “Well, shall we?”
"Try to keep up," Saffi said, winking before she ran towards the building.
“Ok, but we still need to be quiet and sneaky.” Davis reminded Saffi as he raced after her.
"Quiet and sneaky are my middle names," Saffi said sarcastically. She stopped abruptly and sneezed into her arm. "Most of the time…" she added.
“Sure.” Davis laughed. He ran up to the building and did a running jump onto a good foothold, “I win.” Davis teased and started his trek up the building.
"Hey, that's not fair!" she hissed. She caught up with him and stuck her tongue out, frowning.
“Why isn’t it fair?” Davis asked as he scaled the wall.
"Because I said so," Saffi said, shrugging. She went to go up the building a little farther and missed the foothold, hanging on with just her hands. "Dammit…" she muttered, pulling herself back up.
“Be careful, Saffi!” Davis warned.
"No really? I''m trying. This isn't my ideal place to climb," Saffi muttered, pouting.
“Sorry I was concerned.” Davis smirked.
"Don't smirk at me," Saffi said, frowning.
“Alright, sorry!” Davis turned away and smirked out of spite.
"That's what I thought," she muttered, starting to climb faster.
Davis hoisted himself onto the roof and held out a hand to help Saffi up.
Saffi muttered something inaudible and took his hand and with his help pulled herself onto the roof. "You win," she said, crossing her arms and trying not to smile.
