Nathaniel flinched at the look, having seen it many times before and knowing what it meant. Tears stung his eyes, but he refused to leave Darren's side.
Nathaniel flinched at the look, having seen it many times before and knowing what it meant. Tears stung his eyes, but he refused to leave Darren's side.
Lillian took a shaky breath, "I-I'm sorry I don't."
Darren stood quickly and started looking for something. He checked a over the kitchen, opening drawers and slamming them shut again before moving to the living room.
"Dar, c-calm down, where are you going?" Nathaniel trotted after him, rubbing at his teary eyes.
Darren reached in the couch cushion and found what he was looking for. He pulled his keys out and made to walk out the door. Though he was in no position to be driving.
"Dar!" Nathaniel grabbed onto Darren's pants leg, trying to pull him back into the apartment.
Lillian walked after him, "You really shouldn't be driving."
“What are you going to do about it?” He said pulling away from Nate.
Nathaniel fell to the ground and watched Darren grow angrier, bursting into tears. He was helpless in the situation, and nothing he tried was working.
Darren stopped and the keys fell the ground. Tears welled up in his eyes and burned in his throat. He turned around and saw Nate, “What happened? Is he okay?”
Lillian walked up and hugged Darren, “Yeah. H-he’s fine.”
“Are you sure?” He said a tear falling from his cheek. His legs felt shaky and exhausted.
What happened? He's… not angry anymore? Nathaniel looked up at Darren with fear in his eyes, hiccuping and with cheeks streaked with tears.
Darren walked up to Nate slowly, “Are you okay?”
Nathaniel shied away from Darren, unsure what to think. He rubbed at his cheeks, confused and scared,
Darren stopped and looked back at Lillian, “What happened, I don’t understand!”
“Y-you got angry,” Lillian responded, “Really really angry.”
“I’m sorry,” he said under his breath. “I didn’t mean to-I’m sorry.”
Lillian nodded, try as she might her body wouldn’t stop shaking, “I know. I-I know.”
Darren walked in and sat on the couch. He was confused, everyone seemed afraid of him and he didn’t know why. He would have normally run his fingers through his hair but instead he rubbed a hand over his stitches.
Nathaniel hid behind Lillian's leg, a few more tears rolling down his face as he looked up at Darren. He seemed to be trembling, his eyes wide and his wings hanging limply upon his back.
Lillian looked at Nate. She crouched down, “He’s okay now. This is just something he does.”
Lillian muttered to herself, “Something I’ll have to get used to.”
Darren couldn’t stop the tears that began rolling down his face. They came faster and faster as his shoulders began to shake.
He wiped the tears from his face and wrapped his arms around Lillian's neck. He shifted his wings somewhat and closed his eyes, clinging tightly to Lillian.
Lillian smiled and let out a soft sob as she held onto Nathaniel. She glanced at Darren. After the kids calmed down. Can you wait that long?
Darren wiped his tears and stood up walking over by Lillian and Nate. He knelt down and rubbed Nate’s back, “I’m sorry buddy,”
Nathaniel hesitated before reaching out to Darren, traces of his crying still remaining on his rosy cheeks.
Darren sighed, “I’m so sorry.” He said looking to Lillian.
Lillian let go and sat down. Her elbow rested on her knee while the other side laid limp. She nodded, “Don’t apologize for something that wasn’t your fault.”
Darren hugged Nate, “I didn’t mean to scare you. Are either of you hurt?”
