"Are you guys cold or something? You keep shaking." Max hissed in pain as his torn collar scraped against the wound again.
"Are you guys cold or something? You keep shaking." Max hissed in pain as his torn collar scraped against the wound again.
Harley heard the commotion and came to see what the problem was. seeing Deon she knew it wasn't good, he rarely ever showed his face on pack grounds, usually staying the lone Cabin. "Ok guys move aside let me through." She went and stood beside Koray. she looked at the boy and winced, he couldn't have been older than 7. she bent down to his level and looked at his wound.
"Max, does that hurt?" asked Koray - she hate to think that such a young child would be hurt like this. Harley walked up towards them and Koray moved aside.
"Only one. Although he's more like my best friend than my dog. He's really smart! Like a person, almost. Owning him's not really the right phrase of course. Cosmo's my friend, and I like to think of him as my equal. Or at least close to it."
Iris stepped to the side. She was merely third in command, not a Beta. "Harley," she said in greeting. She sighed in relief of hearing that the boy didn't think of his relationship with his dog as ownership.
"My shirt keeps rubbing against my shoulder, so it definitely doesn't feel great." Max pulled at his collar again.
"Well the pack doctor isn't here, he went to go cleanse his soul and won't be back for 2 weeks. But before dad appointed me his heir, i worked with him so i know how to take care of this." Harley suddenly seemed more powerful as she stood up "I need antiseptic, bandages, a wet towel and a change of clothes. can you get me these things?" She asked no one in particular
Koray transformed into a wolf "Got it!" she said. She took off in a sprint.
Hane pulled out a small package.
"First aid kit, few other things in there." He said.
Iris sat in the grass beside the child, ready to do whatever was asked of her in a heartbeat.
"Woah! Wait, how're you guys turning into dogs?" Max was set on the ground, and he looked up at the people. No, dogs? Dog people? He wasn't sure what to call them.
Koray was back in minutes "I couldn't find any antiseptic or bandage," reported Koray ", but I do have wet towel and change of clothes - they might be a bit big for him though; they're mine." said Koray as she handed Harley the towel and clothes.
Iris felt irritated at being referred to as a dog, but dismissed it since Max was only just a pup- er kid. "We are wolves. Werewolves to be exact."
"Werewolves?" Max cocked his head to the side. Some wolf-like instincts seemed to have begun kicking in from the bite. "Those exist? I thought they were just in stories, like Little Red Riding Hood. Although I think he was just a normal wolf…"
Iris chuckled a bit at his comment. "Yes we do. This is our Luna, Harley. She will be healing you. You need to keep still," she instructed, while introducing said high ranked werewolf in front of them.
"Okay." He sat as still as he could, but couldn't help but shy away a bit when they got close to the wound.
Working quickly, grabbed her dagger and cut his shirt open. "Sorry buddy, this is going to hurt." she put the antiseptic on his back and heard him scream the howl in pain. wrapping the bandage around his wound and put a cover on his back to protect it from infection and stood up. "Well buddy, your clothes are ruined but we have a Batman shirt and a pair of pants for you to wear. Here you go." Harley helped the boy put his shirt on and then gave him the pants to wear.
Iris winced at the screams. She felt bad, but at least he would be healing faster now.
Max hissed in pain, but thanked Harley anyways. Mom always says that sometimes things have to hurt before they get better… like that time Cosmo hurt his paw and he had to wear a cone. I hope they don't make me wear a cone…
"What should we do now?" Iris asked Harley. There was no way he would be allowed to leave, at least not until he was healed.
"So how are you feeling?" Harley stood up and picked up the boy
"My arm hurts, but I'm okay." Then, the moon shone onto him from the trees. "Never mind, now I feel weird…" He winced as he transformed into a wolf pup, keeping his eyes tightly shut.
"Oh No." She whispered, "Max? Are you there?"
Iris gasped, smile forming. "Oh. My. Stars." was all she was able to say.
Max groaned, opening his eyes. "Oww… what? Am I hallucinating now?" He looked down at his hands, or rather, paws. "Where'd my hands go?"
Koray held her breath. 'This isn't good' she thought. Who would take care of him? If he wasn't a werewolf he could have just gone back to his family and they would have thought he was just blocking out memories with a big little kid imagination… but he could never go back. Not now.
Iris felt giddy and let herself become less serious for a minute. Shifting into her wolf form, her tail was now wagging excitedly. She didn't think of the fact that he couldn't go home anymore. Then it hit her. Her tail stopped immediately.
"Do you remember anything… from before? Like your family?" Koray asked Max - she couldn't remember if she'd asked him before. At least if he couldn't remember he wouldn't know what he was missing… then again… he seemed to remember plenty. His dog shudders, Cosmo, and his name. If he remembered that everything else might slowly come back to him and he'll be left… longing… for the rest of his life.
"Um…." Max thought for a moment. "Just… Cosmo, I think. I don't remember anything else."
Koray swallowed a lump in her throat "It's… it's probably better that way, Max." she said as she transformed into a wolf - she always felt more at home in her own fur.
