"Lloyd was worse, he started it!" Darren said jokingly defensive.
"Lloyd was worse, he started it!" Darren said jokingly defensive.
Lillian’s smile grew, “I wonder how much of the movie he even watched?”
Darren shrugged. "I didn't think angels slept…"
"Did you enjoy your breakfast? Pancakes are my specialty…"
Lillian nodded, “They were great!”
"Is it okay if I ask you about your family?" Darren's face turned serious.
Lillian’s face fell. She got quiet before responding, “A-ask away.”
"Why do they do the things they do to you? Is there a backstory?" Darren felt guilty for bringing this up no matter how curious he was.
(Is anyone here?)
(Give me like 40 minutes.)
(okay 👍)
Lillian thought back to when it all started, "I think it's because my mom's jealous of me. You know when a child is more talented then their parents, well that's me. The.." Lillian couldn't bring herself to say it. She felt tears well up in her eyes, "Stuff started after I got accepted into my first major theater role. It was the Sound of Music back when I was in fourth grade. The day I found was the first time she… Yeah."
Darren nodded feeling bad for bringing this up and making Lillian upset. "What about your dad?"
She felt a tear slowly fall, "He just follows my mom's lead. She hits. He hits. It's an endless spiral, but my mom's the one in charge."
Darren stared intensely at his hands trying to tell Lillian something he had never talked about with anyone. "When I was 9 my mom died from cancer. Before that we were all happy, then she got sick and my dad got mean. He didn't love her when she was sick and he left. When my mom died he came back for me but he's never been the same." Darren felt tears burning the corners of his eyes but he was determined not to cry. "We never talked about it, heck we never talk at all. The only thing my dad cares about is football."
Darren looked up, "He doesn't even know I'm in the musical. He'd kill me if he knew."
Lillian hugged Darren. She felt it was the right thing to do, and she really didn't have any words to express how she felt. If theater had taught her anything, it was that actions can be so much louder than words.
Darren hugged Lillian back. He held tight trying not cry but buried his head in her shoulder just in case he did.
Lillian felt as Darren held her tight. She held him and felt as the tears slipped down her face and dripped from her chin.
Darren sniffed and tried to make it seem as though he wasn't crying, "Someday we won't have to deal with any of this, I promise."
Lillian nodded. She didn't try to hide her tears, "I hope that day comes soon."
"You know what?" Darren said suddenly pulling out of Lillian's embrace. "That day is gonna be today."
Lillian wiped at her tears, "What do you mean?"
"We are going to treat today like none of that has ever happened to us." Darren had a look of confidence on his face. "If you'll accompany me. We can have our first date and our parents can't do anything about it… We can shut our phones off and ignore the world and all the awful things it's done." Darren smiled and offered his hand out for Lillian to grab, "Only if you'll accompany me."
Lillian smiled and let out a small laugh. She took Darren's hand, "That sounds amazing. Let's do it!"
Darren returned the smile and let out a short laugh while pulling Lillian up and heading to walk out the door. "Where shall we go your highness?" Darren winked at Lillian.
Lillian laughed, "Oh I don't know. You can decide, though, uh, maybe one of us should keep our phones on in case Paige contacts us again."
"I can keep mine on. You turn yours off, we aren't going anywhere until you do." Darren smiled.
(ill brb)
(Okay.)
Lillian rolled her eyes as she opened her phone. A second message from her mom had come through. She didn't bother reading it as she shuddered before turning her phone off. She felt as if some huge weight had been lifted from her shoulders.
(Sorry I was gone so long QwQ d&d was lit tho)
Lloyd opened his eyes again. How late is it? He checked the clock on the wall. Jeez, I slept for an entire hour… The smell of food came from the kitchen. but Lloyd didn't really care. He rarely ate, after all, considering he didn't need to. He stood up, straightening out his hoodie. His hair was messy, and he still seemed a bit tired.
