Al shed her windbreaker and nodded, lying down
Allyanna turned the lights down and double checked all the curtains were closed, before also lying down. "Goodnight Al."
"Goodnight Allyanna" Al replied before drifting off
Allyanna also fell asleep fairly quickly. She silently woke up with nightmares a couple times in the night, but each time, she looked over to Al, and calmed enough to sleep again.
Al did the same. A few times, she shot up in a cold sweat, but watching Allyana for a few seconds was enough to calm her. Every time she woke though, she watched for the rise and fall of Allyana's breathing, subconsciously making sure she was alive
(awwe these two are so cute! When I wake up at night I grab my puppy and snuggle aggressively. He doesn't like it, but he tolerates it for me.)
In the morning, Allyanna got up quietly and cooked breakfast, leaving a plate for Al, alongside a partially English note. It read "I have been studying the translator data- I believe this is correct? I will be back for midday meal- lunch?-" The rest was in the Nefili language, but it seemed to say the same thing.
When Al awoke, she meandered to the kitchen and ate her breakfast as she read the note, smiling to herself, as Allyanna was as correct as could be expected in english
(she has been spending all her free time in her clinic studying)
Allyanna was off at her job again, but the devices to contact her were out, as well as the toggle for the translator.
Al made note of this, taking to drawing blueprints for the repairs until Allyanna got home
Allyanna got home around midday, dragging several large sheets of metal floating behind her, into the garage, before coming in to make lunch.
Al watched her do so, contemplating offering assistance before Allyana came into the kitchen "how was work?" she asked
Allyanna sighed. "There was a Generi {Wish Worker} that I couldn't save. Kin {pronoun of the Wish Worker} was shot by an illegal poacher." She was obviously upset about it.
Al took Allyanas hand with a soft frown "I'm sorry, Allyanna.. I'm sure you did everything you could for kin"
Allyanna nodded. "I did, but I wish I could have done more. If I had been able to get a Learian (Animal of Minor Healing) there in time, it might have given me the time I needed. But our last Learian was claimed as a pet by the local government. It is so frustrating. Learians are not pets, they are companions who eat the pain, injuries, and illness of other life forms."
Most of what Allyanna was saying was very confusing to Al. Different types of aliens, several who seemed to have some sort of power..
Al was confused, but she understood Allyana's sentiment, and was there as a listening ear. "I understand what you mean. I hate the governments think they can just claim sentient lifeforms"
Allyanna looked up. "Exactly! I mean, Learians are not fully sentient, but they seem to be heading that way! And either way, they aren't meant to be pets, they can not feed that way. They can only feed by taking others pain. Claiming one as a pet, keeping it away from a hospital, it basically starving it." She growled the last sentence
Al nodded. "If they feed on taking others pain, they couldn't survive as pets. At least not well-kept ones" She agreed. She wasn't sure what these aliens were, but it sounded messed up. "Hey.. do you think we could take one with us?"
Allyanna looked at her. "It would be helpful, but in order to feed it, we would have to make sure someone is in pain at least once a day. If we can figure out how to do that ethically, than sure."
Al's eyes lit up "My flashbacks! It can feed off of my PTSD, because it happens anyway"
Allyanna furrowed her brow. "Are those physically painful? There is not much study done about if they can feed on mental painβ¦"
"Usually" Al replied, now almost sheepishly "The effects they have affect my body.. usually my heart beats so fast my chest hurts, combined with how rapid my breathing gets, and I get phantom pains if they have something to do with battle wounds.."
Allyanna frowned. "While that would work⦠That does not sound healthy for you-" She said, worriedly
Al nodded. "It happens anyway.. PTSD is a hard thing to get rid of. If I can put it to good use, it offers an upside to something I go through regardless" She said reassuringly
Allyanna nodded. "All right. I can fill out forms to get one for specific patients, I can fill those out tomorrow."
Al smiled "Great. Could it be used in the hospital in the meantime, that way it still gets plenty of food, and can be helpful?"
Allyanna nodded. "Exactly. So, what type of food do you want for lunch?".
"Can I have a sandwich?" She asked politely
Allyanna nodded, quickly preparing two sandwiches
