Darren continued to pace.
Darren continued to pace.
Paige's stomach lurched and she ran into a stall before throwing up into a toilet. Guilt… guilt… It made her sick to her stomach. She continued to gag incessantly.
Darren stopped. "Did she just throw up?"
"Screw privacy, someone needs to go in there!"
"Paige?! Are you okay?" Lloyd could hear her making some sort of noise, and it didn't sound good. He was unfamiliar with this kind of thing, as angels rarely vomited unless something was gravely wrong with them. They had no need for human foods, although water was still necessary for survival. Food was eaten solely for pleasure or important events requiring a feast.
"I'll do it," Lillian volunteered. She walked up to the door and knocked, "I'm coming in."
Paige couldn't think. Her head was wild. She screamed the first name that came to her mind: "Lillian!"
Darren sighed and began, once again, with his pacing this time playing with his hands and staring at his feet.
"I'm here," Lillian said from the other side of the door, "What's going on? Are you going to freak out if I come in to help you?"
"Hey Lloyd, what do you think about Lillian?" Darren looked up from his feet to look at Lloyd.
"No, help me," Paige said.
"Hey Lloyd, what do you think about Lillian?" Darren looked up from his feet to look at Lloyd.
"How do you mean?" Lloyd cocked his head to the side, confused.
Lillian entered the stall and rubbed Paige's back, "Hey. It's okay. Everything's going to be okay. Whatever happened it's going to be okay. I'm here for you."
"They're my best friends," Paige whispered, gagging again. Her stomach convulsed. When it calmed down again, she added, heartbroken, "How could they say those things?"
Darren sat down next to Lloyd still playing with hands. He sighed loudly "Don't tell anyone anything I'm about to tell you."
"Of course. Angel's code, number 15, 'Never Break an Oath.'" Lloyd smiled softly.
Lillian continued rubbing her back. She said filled with honesty, "If they said whatever they said, then they aren't your real friends. You're real friends would stick with you through thick and thin. If there is anything I've learned it's that. But whatever happened I'm here for you Paige."
"We've become really close lately, I really-um-I-like her" Darren mumbled. "I don't want to ruin our friendship by asking her out."
"Well, I'm not sure how much I can really do to help, but I'll try. I would recommend first inviting her out with a small group of friends. It's casual; comfortable. Then, invite her out to do something with just the two of you. You don't have to specify that it's a date, more of an outing. After that, perhaps you could ask her out on an official date? The destination for each of these outings is up to you and her of course, although letting her choose might be wise."
"We've all been friends since first grade," Paige whispered, unsure of what to say. Her mind was flashing a million miles a minute, but she couldn't tell Lillian that, especially some of the thoughts that truly crossed her mind.
Lillian nodded. She figured the best thing to do was just be there for Paige, if she wanted to say anything then Lillian would let her say them.
"Yeah, that's good. I was also thinking of inviting her over to run lines at my house or hers." Darren said awkwardly. He didn't know how to talk about this kind of stuff.
"Can you come with me to go get my phone?" Paige asked.
"That would be good, I assume. I've never been in a relationship, however, just observed. You are welcome to simply ignore my advice, and I won't be offended. I think you'll find you need to do something considerably more severe to offend me."
"Yeah," Lillian nodded. She stood up and offered Paige a hand.
Darren laughed. "No man I'll use your advice. It was really good." Darren stopped the subject when he heard the girls getting up in the bathroom.
Paige took Lillian's hand and followed her out of the bathroom, her stomach still midly churning.
Darren stood expectantly when he saw the girls exit the bathroom.
"That's good." Lloyd looked up as he heard Paige and Lillian approaching. He stood up, ready to be of any help if necessary.
Lillian reached down and grabbed Paige's phone. She offered it to Paige, "Here it is."
