Kayin wandered the hallways of the castle, very aware of the guard that was following her. She fidgeted with the braided bracelet around her wrist, running her finger tips over the worn leather. As she walked the other bracelet, a beaded one, made a small rattling sound.
(anyone else wanna come to the throne room and see some drama)
(come see some drama ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) )
(Uh oh I'm scared now lenny faces are never good…)
Kayin peeked into the throne room, spotting her two sisters and mother inside. Ah, so she wants to see Zakhele and Mbahli but not me. As always. She stood outside the doorway, listening in.
(Also I've decided that Kayin desperately wants to be Zakhele, and she also is jealous of her and wants to be the heir)
(yasss, I mean like don't dethrone Zakhele bc I'm Zakhele but get it girl)
"Zakhele's crowning means… The both of you need to find some to marry. Once Zakhele is queen, we will start the selection process for a Prince Consort, but we still need you, Mbahli, to find yourself a husband," their mother explained, crossing her legs as she spoke. Zakhele had troubled keeping her smile up at the mention of marriage. She didn't want to be married so soon, but the duties of a queen awaited, and it was one of the traditions of their people.
Ah, the one downside to being Queen. I hope I never have to get married. Kayin thought as she leaned back against the wall, shooing the guard away that had followed her.
( @TheLavenderOwl input would be great rn, bc I have no what to write xD)
(Sure, lemme add you. Might wanna check out her profile on the first page while you're at it if you haven't already.)
(Feel free to replace yourself as the queen in the rp from now on, but read what's happened so far so the context makes sense.)
Is she a good ruler or a bad ruler? I kinda want firm but just ruler if that's okay?
(Idk)
Mbhali nodded. "Yes mother. With all due respect, I am not ready to marry yet."
(Since I'm just getting a feel for the universe right now, roleplay her however you like.)
Zakhele took this as an opportunity to voice her thoughts. "With all due respect, I am the same mother. Must we really continue this old and tried tradition?"
"It is a tradition older than our kingdom itself. We must do it, if only for the people."
(BTW how do you pronounce Ngozi?)
"And? It is time we modernize some of our culture, don't you think mother? Besides, why would I need a Prince Consort when you wise teachings will help me be a good queen anyway?" She argued.
"And besides, you must produce an heir for the throne or there will be no point handing it down to you." Queen Ngozi said firmly.
"I can produce a heir later," she saved, waving her hand dismissively. "Why do I have to produce a heir so early? I am only twenty-three."
Kayin rolled her eyes. Yes, the 'wise teachings'. Such a teacher's pet.
"It is tradition, we will keep it." Ngozi said, unwilling to hear anything further about her daughter choosing a spouse her own self instead of a contest.
Shoot. I was hoping Zakhele would put an end to that stupid tradition. Kayin grumbled in her head.
"And don't either of you talk back to me, I won't hear any more of this." she said. "Now we should discuss the contest itself."
(Kayin out here throwing that shade)
She kept further remarks to herself, pressing her lips together. She could vouch for herself another time. "Fine, mother."
"I agree with Zakhele. Traditions can become outdated, mother." Mbhali stated. She wasn't about to let this matter wait for another day.
