Nikki walked over to the couch with the furball in her arms and she herself curled into a ball

Jo crouchs in front of the couch, staring at Nikki.

"I'm making an effort to try and start changing, Nicole."

Nikki nodded before looking up at him "why though?"

"Because. . . well, if I'm being honest, with the newest addition to our family, and me now having you, I can't be the way I was." Jo murmurs.

Nikki squinted at the word family as if it confused her she didn't have a family..right? "Oh.."

Jo notes the look.

"We're a family now."

Nikki's heart nearly jumped out of her chest as Jo said this, she just stared at him "what?"

"I mean, we're in love, we live together. We may not be married or engaged, but I think that constitutes as a family. Especially since Mittens is here now. She can be our child, since we can't exactly have an actual child." he smiles.

Nikki never had a family her father had bought her mother and raped her which had conceived Nikki in the process and her mother died while giving birth it's a Miracle Nikki was even alive when she was born being as malnourished as they both were, so she never had this so her confusion and fear was to be expected. she just looked down at the can and then back to jo once he had stated that they could have no children her face went pale and she dug her nails into her stomach

Jo stands up and gently slides onto the couch, pulling Nikki into his arms, making sure he didn't squish the kitten.

"What's wrong? Did I do something wrong?"

Nikki quickly shook her head quickly as he moved closer and she leaned her head on him she was trembling a bit but not exactly noticeable since her hand was holding her stomach "no"

"You're upset about my mention of children, aren't you. . ." he asks.

She shook her head again but didn't say anything this time, praying he wouldn't get upset at himself and leave.

Jo gently presses a kiss to the top of Nikki's head.

"I'm sorry. I should've remembered. . ."

Nikki shook her head once again "it's fine. . Im not mad."

"But I made you upset, and that's just as bad." he sighs softly.

"It's not your fault. " she said quietly as she moved the kitten back into her lap

"Kinda was. I should've been more considerate." he replies gently.

Nikki shakes her head before clinging to Jo "it's okay. . . We can't change what is done, I'm infertile that's not an issue."

"And even if you weren't. . . there's no way we could make a child, since I'm sterile." he murmurs.

She paused for a moment she knew he was she never forgot and her face went red for a split second "we. . . could always adopt..when we're ready of course." She sounded so optimistic yet let no excitement seep through her voice she wanted his opinion first

"We've adopted this little fella. I'm no sure I could deal with two things that cause extreme chaos at the same time." he chuckles. "But eventually, sure. I'll have to use a fake name and I.D., of course. . ."

"True. I can get us a house with ease, then." he replies cherfully.

"But that's a lot of money-"

"And I have a lot of money." he shrugs.
