"Mm-hmmm. . ." Jess hums, shifting to poke Kris playlfully.

"Sure, you aren't blushing." she replies jockingly, knowing perfectly well that Kris was, in fact, blushing like a ripe tomato.

"Even if I were, you'd have no idea, 'cause of the lighting." Kris rests her arms on her knees, bringing them closer to her chest, her chin on her forearms.

"Suuuure." Jess laughs.

She nudges Kris with an elbow.

"You okay?"

Kris flinches. "Yeah! Why?"

Jess tilts her head, surprised.

"Well, you just seem. . . weirdly distant all of a sudden."

"How so?"

"I dunno. . . you just seem very awkward around me now, compared to earlier."

"You wound me." Kris says sarcastically, still avoiding a real reply.

"Ah, stop dodging the questions." Jess says, suppressing a smile.

"You got me."
"I'll say it again, I'm not sure why."

"Hm. I don't believe that, but okay." she chuckles.
