"'Kay." Kris stands and leaves with Jess. "So it's down that way?" She asks, pointing in what she thought might be the general direction of the skate park.
"'Kay." Kris stands and leaves with Jess. "So it's down that way?" She asks, pointing in what she thought might be the general direction of the skate park.
Jess waggles her head and moves Kris' finger to point the exact opposite direction.
"You were close enough." she teases.
Kris flinches as her hand is moved. "I have literally no sense of direction." She states jokingly. "You may have to give me a compass."
"Google Maps works better than a compass. But I doubt either would work if you have no sense of direction," Jess giggles.
Kris starts walking in the general direction Jess said the place was. "Doesn't matter, pure spire will get me lost anyway!" She announces proudly. "I'm like a dad who will never admit he's lost."
"Oh my god!" Jess snorts, starting to laugh loudly, following Kris.
"I'll do it, it's inevitable." Kris absentmindedly spins around, arms out, as if to show off how proud she was of being horrible with directions. "This is the right way, right?" She asks mid-spin, slowing down.
Jess laughs a bit harder, placing her hands on Kris' shoulders and spinning her to face the correct direction.
"Nearly had it, dear."
Kris smiles and looks back at Jess, then continues. "You can be my guide."
Jess doesn't even think to read into that statement.
"I'll do my best, m'lady." she replies, as though she were talking to a royal lady.
Kris continues walking normally, following Jess's directions.
Jess says the directions from memory, keeping a hand on Kris' shoulder to kinda keep her in a straight-ish line.
Kris continues walking, proud of herself for not flinching when Jess started to guide her. She smiled to herself.
Jess stops after a while, looking at the front part of the skate park.
"Here we are! The best skate park in this part of town." she says, a smile evident in her voice.
"Cool." Kris looks out at it. "Have you skated?" She asks, turning to Jess.
A short pause, then a contemplative hum.
"Nope, but I can learn." she laughs.
"Right now?" Kris glanced around. "With what?"
Jess pauses, then glances around.
A skateboard comes flying by and she catches it.
"With this." she says casually, waving at the dude who had just lost his skateboard; the dude waves back. He knew this bundle of chaos would return it. Everyone knew this bundle of chaos never stole shit.
Kris stares at Jess, wide-eyed, who expected for a half second for her to be hit in the face with the board. "Okay then."
Jess bursts into laughter.
"What?"
"That was just very comical of you." Kris laughs. "I wasn't not expecting it, but…"
"It's not every day that I get the chance to do that! If it's going to happen, of course I'm going to act casual about it." Jess giggles.
"All in all, impressive catch."
"How do you plan on learning without breaking your ankle immediately? I don't think I'll be able to teach you." Kris asks.
"Thank you!" Jess replies witha tiny curtsy.
"Mmm. . . if that's the case, let's try this." she says, setting the skateboard down and starting to push off with her right foot.
Then she hits the edge of a trick ramp and goes down it, laughing like the adrenaline junky she is.
Kris flinches as Jess takes off. "And you've never skated?!" She asks.
"Nope!" Jess calls back cheerfully, somehow - somehow - managing to turn the skateboard at the end of the half pipe, going back the other way.
And then shit goes sideways. Literally.
The skateboard goes one way, Jess goes the other.
(who could have predicted this?!)
Kris hops off the ledge and runs to Jess.
"Jesus christ, are you okay?!" She exclaims.
(Obviously not Jess, eternal maker of bad life choices XD )
Jess laughs slightly.
Probably unconvincingly, she nods.
"Yeah, I'm fine. Just twisted my ankle slightly." she explains.
"Oh my god, I cursed you." Kris says. "Doubt you can stand, can you?"
Jess slowly stands, hiding a great deal of pain behind a smile.
"Yeah." she nods, taking a step, testing how bad the pain is.
An 8, in case anybody was wondering.
"I can continue!" she lies.
