"Aw, c'mon! You gotta admit, McDonalds would be awesome right now." Jess grins.
"Aw, c'mon! You gotta admit, McDonalds would be awesome right now." Jess grins.
"Yeah it would! But I'm just saying."
"…"we have food at home"." Kris quotes.
Jess snorts, trying to suppress a laugh, and fails horribly, falling into a 3 minute long giggle fit.
"I killed her!" Kris exclaims, laughing. She actually found her laugh- to her own horror- endearing. "Breathe, it wasn't that funny."
Jess eventually calms down, giggling slightly.
"Oh it most definitely was, dear. You are fucking funny."
'Dear'?-'
'Jesus, get a hold of yourself.'
"Ha, thanks." Kris mumbles, smiling.
"Mm-hmm!" Jess hums.
She stands up, still holding her ice cream; it was only half finished, and she wanted to eat it all.
She gets a bright idea.
"You want to try some of this?" she asks, holding out her ice cream to Kris.
"'Yeah sure?!" Kris replies, louder than intended. She then does nothing, mentally cursing herself.
Jess raises an eyebrow.
"You okay there? Do you not want to after all?" she asks, confused.
"Never mind. I'm good, I don't need any." Kris lets her muscles relax, her face and neck burning.
Jess looks at Kris closely.
"You are quite red. Is something wrong?"
"Nope." Kris forces a grin- actually, she wanted to tell herself it was forced, but it wasn't at all. The sheer flustering situation was enough.
Jess leans forward, examining Kris' pupils. Close enough to feel a flutter of breath from Kris.
"Okay. . ." she says doubtfully after a moment, leaning back.
Kris holds her breath as Jess comes closer to her. She exhales as she pulls away. "Yeah."
Jess grins suddenly.
"Hey, I'll bet you're just hungry. Let's go get McDonalds."
Kris leaves and decides to finish on the way.
Jess trots after Kris.
"So, after McDonalds, where do you want to go?"
"Oh." Kris thought for a moment. "Sounds dumb but there's a house up for sale next to mine. No one visits it or anything. It's nice to be on the roof up there."
"I don't know though. Sounds dumb."
Jess thinks for a moment.
"Hmmm. . . sounds like a nighttime adventure to me. What should we do in the meantime though?"
"I don't know. I'm indifferent." Kris shrugs, embarrassed to admit that she had gone blank. "Sorry. Um… hm, skate park or something? I've never been. Not like I can skate or anything."
"Ooo, it's been a while. Let's go to Skate City!" Jess says brightly, finally finishing her ice cream.
"Well, after McDonalds." she says, stepping into the fast food joint and squinting up at the menu.
"Yeah, that!" Kris finishes as well. She follows Jess. "I don't think I'll get anything."
Jess looks at Kris, eyes refocusing.
"Okay. . . but, uh. . . can you read what the menu says?"
Kris blinks. "Can you not see? Do you need glasses or something?" She asks.
Jess chuckles, running a hand through her hair awkwardly.
"Yeah, I'm nearsighted." she admits.
Kris recites most of the menu. "Why don't you just wear glasses?" She asks, laughing a bit.
"Because- I don't actually know. I don't have insurance is part of it, I guess." Jess sighs, ordering a 10 piece McChicken.
"Ah." Kris nods. She waits a moment. "Do you ever go to classes? Or is it like this every day for you?"
"Technically, I'm not actually in school. I just continue to show up because I need to get a diploma. Also, nobody's stopped me." Jess shrugs.
"Sometimes I wish that was how it were. That sounds selfish though." Kris admits. "Unpopular opinion, but school is hell." She continues sarcastically.
