“An assortment is fine. Though… If there could be more strawberries, or grapes?” she asked.
“An assortment is fine. Though… If there could be more strawberries, or grapes?” she asked.
He nodded before yelling back the order in some other language before getting a response which sounded like a complaint of some kind in the same language that made him chuckle before turning back to Charlotte. "Sorry about that, the cooks only speak Elvish. Came from the village on the other side of the woods."
Charlotte was interested when she heard the other language but perked up when the man identified it. “How interesting. I've only heard Elvish a couple of times before but I never actually learned it.” she admitted.
"I don't blame you, it's a difficult language to learn. Speaking it is the easiest, actually. Reading or heavens forbid writing it is damn near impossible to learn if you're not from an Elven village."
“But a beautiful language to listen to.” she nodded. “I can copy some of the shapes of Elvish writing but I can't understand them. And speaking it… Well, I guess I just never had a chance to learn.” she admitted with a shrug.
He shrugged with a smile. "My family moved to an Elven village when I was a kid so I grew up learning Elvish. Believe me, it was not easy."
“Hmm. Lucky.” she chuckled softly. “My parents didn't move anywhere when I was born. So, I didn't get to go anywhere or see much more than the town.”
"I don't know, I think it would've been nice to stay in the town I was born in. We moved when I was about six so I had started to think of these people as family. Then we just up and left. Was kinda devastating."
“Oh… I see.” she hummed, thoughtfully. “I guess it was nice to know the same people as I grew up.”
He shrugged with a slight smile. "Eh, it all worked out in the end. Learn a lot, loved a lot. And in the end, that's all that really matters isn't it?"
“Very true. And you have an experience that, as far as I know, not many people can claim.” she added, smiling back at him.
He smiled and nodded before snapping his fingers. "Oh! Where are my manners, my mother raised me better than this. I'm Cyrus. A pleasure, m'lady. And you are?"
“Charlotte. Nice to meet you.” she giggled, lifting her hand and holding it out for a shake.
Cyrus gladly shook Charlotte's hand, pressing a kiss to her knuckles. "Please, the pleasure's all mine."
“Such a gentleman.” Charlotte giggled at the kiss, blushing faintly as she wondered if she would have to get used to this sort of thing while she was traveling.
"I do try." He hummed with a chuckle. "Do you have any particular destinations in mind during your travels or are you just walking until you find something."
“Oh, a little bit of both. We've got a couple of places that we are hoping to see but we are going to enjoy the in-between parts as well.” she admitted with a smile.
"Sounds lovely. It's been a while since I met someone who was walking simply for the experience of walking so this is a bit refreshing. First time?"
“Yes.” she admitted, her face turning a little more red as she did. “But I've been enjoying it. You get to see so many beautiful things this way.”
"And what's your favorite thing you've seen so far? Other than me, of course." He winked playfully before laughing.
Charlotte laughed with him and shook her head. “Other than you and my companion, you mean?” she teased just as playfully. “Honestly, it's just little things. The way the sun filters through the leaves. The wildness of the plants and some of the less dangerous animals.” she explained since they had only been traveling for two days but she loved every moment of it.
Cyrus listened and nodded along, smiling to himself. "That's really nice. Yeah, the woods around here are really pretty and only get more whimsical as you head closer to the Elven village."
“Oh, and I can't wait to see that.” she said eagerly. If she wasn't wearing her bracelet right now, her wings would be fluttering rapidly in excitement.
"Is that your next stop? I'd really recommend it, it's such a pretty place. Although I'd be careful, there are definitely some swindlers in there that like to trick tourists or adventurers."
“It might be.” she nodded. “Thank you for your warning, though I doubt I have much that anyone would be interested in taking.” she admitted, since she was probably not going to be wearing her bracelet when they got there.
Cyrus titled his head with a look of confusion. "Oh? And what exactly makes you say that?"
“Well, I didn't pack much with any value. Just basic stuff.” she said, nonchalantly as she glanced up at where the room was. Honestly, she was a little surprised that Rodney was still asleep.
Cyrus glanced up with her and smiled. "Your companion still asleep? Well, depending on how long they've been doing this and how often they actually sleep in a town, they could be out for the rest of the day if you don't wake them."
“Either he's still asleep or just hasn't come down yet.” she nodded. “And he told me he’s been doing this for a long time. Though we both agreed that the beds here were very comfortable.”
"That's good to know." Then a plate was put onto the window and Cyrus handed it to Charlotte. "There you are. Enjoy that and when your companion wakes up, he's more than welcome to come down and get something."
