Marya finished the fire, already starting to sweat from the heat.

“Cal,” Nimue said, strange glaze and calm to her face. “Hand yourself over.”
Lucky for them, Marya had walked farther away to get sticks.

Cal looked over at Nimue, a questioning look on his face. She could hear the voice too. And she was right. He couldn't let them get hurt because of him. "I-I will."
You win. Don't hurt them.
Fine. Walk towards me.
Cal felt his limbs move by themselves, towards a darker part of the forest. He shuddered, hating the fact that he couldn't see what was around him.

I got an idea to turn nimue into a legitimate traitor besides mind control
but it would require me to flirt with my own characters and idk how I feel about that

"Cal?" where was he going? He was afraid of the dark. Marya grabbed her knife and went after him, dropping a pebble every few seconds so she could find her way back. "Cal! Nimue!"

He stepped out from behind a tree, blue magic swirling around his fingertips. His hair was the exact same shade. He smiled pleasantly, as if greeting a friend. “Cal. What a nice surprise. Go ahead, talk. Don’t scream though.”

Cal heard Marya's voice and opened his mouth to answer, but he felt some invisible force clamp his mouth shut. An odd feeling washed over him, as if he didn't have control over his own thoughts. Finally words came out, but they weren't his.

"Leave Marya." Cal called back. Don't listen to me. They aren't my words. He wanted to call back, but he couldn't. He had no control over himself.

Convince her, Kirin whispered in Cal’s mind. Or I’ll kill her and everyone at your camp.
Well, I probably wouldn’t. But he doesn’t need to know that.
