(YA JUST LEFT HIM THERE?? Pfffft)
(He'll figure out where they went eventually. And besides, Val's pissed at Nori.)
(Auretta’s probably gonna go back-)
Auretta stays silent, curling close to Val. She has tears streaming down her face again. “Mm…”
(His poor corpse D’:)
(We'll go back eventually!)
Val sighs. "I- I couldn't be there anymore…"
(Yep-)
Auretta nods weakly, having lost the motivation to speak much. “Mm…” she mumbles, looking at the ground.
Val understands this, the same emotions running through her. She walks over and wraps Auretta up. "Hey, little bird, you want to make a light for us to see with?"
Auretta continues staring at the ground as she tries to make light. “….Mmkay…” she mumbles quietly.
"Concentrate… focus on the feeling of daylight, little bird." Val murmurs.
Auretta shuts her eyes gently as she focuses. She is having a bit of trouble, since her mind is pestered with gloomy thoughts. “Mmm…” she hums until a little ball of light appears in her hands.
"That's good!" Val says, smiling slightly. The surrounding area is illuminated brightly. She recognizes it. Why here?
Auretta opens her eyes a bit, looking around in wonder. “W…Where…?” she rasps out, starting to feel scared.
"We're in a forest, Etta." Val says quietly, watching Auretta in case she starts to freak out.
Auretta frantically looks around. “I- Why does it seem so off to me…?” she asks quietly, tearing up. “V-Val, I-I’m scared-“ she whimpers.
"Because it's dark out, little bird. In the daylight, everything is always less scary." Val says, wrapping Auretta in a hug.
Auretta hugs back, whimpering. “I-I want Nori…” she mumbles, hating that she is so scared. “I-I miss him…”
"Don't worry, Etta. He'll be back. I came back, didn't I?" Val murmurs, rubbing Auretta's back.
Auretta nods, burying her face in Val’s shoulder. “I-I feel so lost…H-He’s like a brother to me…” she whimpers.
"H- he was my closest friend, in all my lives. I can't imagine being without him, either, little bird…" Val whispers, holding back tears.
Auretta sobs, clinging to Val like she’s the last person in the world. “I-I don’t know what to do anymore…” she cries. “I-It hurts…”
"I know, Etta, I know…" Val says soothingly, continuing to rub the smaller girls back.
Auretta’s sobbing becomes more like screaming, causing her to grip onto Val tightly as she wails. “T-This grief is killing me!!!”
Val claps a fearful hand over Auretta's mouth. "Shhhh… quiet now, little bird… the forest has eyes and ears…"
Auretta whimpers, resting her hand on Val’s as tears fall from her eyes. “Mm…”
Val sighs. "I- I'm sorry… but, best be quieter until we leave this place." She glances around, then takes her hand away from Auretta's mouth.
Auretta nods, leaning her head on Val’s shoulder. “…Okay…” she mumbles.
"Good, little bird… now, I'll go find us some food. You wait here." Val says, relesaing Auretta.
Auretta nods, hugging herself slightly as frantic thoughts run through her mind.
Val hunts quickly, finding a brace of rabbits, hunting them the old fashioned way. She skins them, then saves their pelts for later. She returns to camp and sets up a small fire, cooking the rabbits quickly.
Auretta brings her knees up to her chest, whimpering as she zones out. She wraps her wings around herself.
