“That’s illegal,” Jane confirmed.
“That’s illegal,” Jane confirmed.
"Oh well I guess that didn't cross my mind at the moment I was kinda worked up."
"Yup. It says so right here," Blaine said, holding up her phone and showing them the screen.
"Oh…."
A mischievous grin made the corners of Blaine's lips curl up. "You know, she could be fired because of that," she stated.
“Could be,” Jane said, walking out.
"No! I don't wanna put her out of a job!" Ender said, wringing his hands.
"She hit you! And gave you detention even though your dad had a heart attack!" Blaine exclaimed.
"I-I don't know…." He put his face in his hands. "I'm kinda to nervous to think right now…"
Jane got in her car and drove to Ender’s house.
"CRAP DID I GIVE JANE THE KEYS???"
//yes yes he did
"Yes, you did. Now calm down! Go get a water or something," Blaine directed him.
"But…I'm not allowed to drink the water…"
Jane pulled up in front of Ender’s house and got out of her car, opening his front door. She walked in, fed the dog, and left, locking the door behind her.
"I just told you that you could!" Blaine exclaimed, exasperated. She shook her head slowly, rubbing her face. "Go, Ender."
"Okay…" He walked over to the counter and took a bottle. "Where's Venus?"
"She isn't here yet. Everybody's late today," Blaine replied.
"Oh okay I don't feel as bad then."
Blaine rolled her eyes and walked over to the front doors, watching for the other teens.
"Mom! I have to go!" Venus yelled.
"No! I got an email from your French teacher saying that you failed to turn in a project that she informed you about 2 weeks in advance!" her mom replied. "You're staying until you finish all of your homework."
"Mom, I'm done all of my homework!" Venus snapped. That wasn't entirely true. She had a science lab that was due tomorrow that she had to get done. But Blaine was good at science. And she had a couple math papers to do. Jane was acing math no prob, she could help her. And she had to finish the English novel that she was three-quarters of the way through. She could read until the customers showed up. "I have it all planned out Mom, love you bye!" Venus grabbed her backpack, car keys, and phone, opened the garage door, and pulled out of the driveway in her white Corolla to head to the haunted house. Her tank was low. Great. She pulled into a Sheetz. While the gas tallied up, she texted Blaine.
Hey, sorry. I'm going to be late today. Like… really late. I'll give you my lame excuse when I get there.
Blaine's phone pinged with a text. She groaned.
"Venus is running really late," she said.
Ender looked up. "Oh is she okay?"
"She didn't say. Just that she'd tell us why when she got here," Blaine answered. "I wonder where Nessa is…"
Jane parked her car and walked back into the haunted house. “Anyone else here yet?” She called.
"Nope! But Venus said she's going to be really late and she'll tell us why when she gets here," Blaine said.
"Venus is on her way…." Ender said.
“Great,” Jane said sarcastically. “just great.”
"What?" Blaine asked warily, narrowing her eyes.
“We start in a half hour,” Jane said.
