"Alright then, follow me." He wandered to a second bedroom down the hall from his own, opening the door to a small stack of clothing on the bed. "This stuff is all hers. You can pick through it, see if you like it or if anything's in your size. Call me if you need me."
Gwen nodded briskly, then shut the door behind her.
She picked through the clothes, picking a beige sweater, and a pair of really tight leggings, a dark brown color.
She tied her hair up with a hair tie and it stayed as a messy bun on the top of her head, her bangs staying straight and on her forehead as always.
She walked out into the living room then smiled at Carson, then sat down next to him.
"Come on butthead" she said with a playful punch to his shoulder "get dressed, I want to go sightseeing at the park" she said although there was barely any sights to see in a Alaskan park.
"Ughhhh, fine." He whined before pulling himself off the couch and heading to his room to get dressed.
When he came out, he had on a cozy looking white turtleneck and ripped black jeans, his hair pulled back into a low ponytail with a pair of black framed glasses. "Usually this isn't my style but I'm cold and I don't need to look any more like a vampire than I usually do."
Gwen laughed and pointed at his jeans.
"but your jeans have rips in them, you're going to be cold no matter what" she said with a sly grin and a giggle
"Well my legs don't freeze as fast as my hands and neck do so it's a sacrifice I'm willing to make." He pouted, blushing pink. "Now come on, we've got a park to visit."
Gwen shrugged and smiled at him gracefully.
"Okay, ready when you are darling" she said softly and walked towards the door, she turned to him briskly and gave him another smile.
"I'm gonna go warm up my car while you lock up." She said, and headed out to her car, leaving Carson in the house, she turned the heat on, and rubbed her hands together while waiting for the car to warm up.
Carson cleaned up from breakfast and about 10 minutes later, he was locking the door behind him as he stepped out of the house. "Chilly out here. Then again, it usually is."
Gwen saw Carson and opened the passenger door for him, letting the cold breeze in, the car was heated now, except for the cold icy air that she let in when she opened the door for him.
She plugged her phone into her aux cord and started playing Mr.Loverman by Ricky Montgomery
Carson quickly slid in and closed the door, warming his hands in front of the vents. "It's cold out there. But then again, it always is."
Gwen nodded with a grimace.
"Yeah, that's one thing I hate about this place, its never warm; I might move somewhere warm after college, get some new scenery." She said, letting her sentence hang in the air for a brief sentence, before turning the volume on the radio up.
"I've got this shake in my legs. Shaking the thoughts from my head. But who put these waves in the door? I crack and out I pour" sang Ricky Montgomery from the old speakers, giving the atmosphere a peaceful, yet sad feeling.
"I don't know, I don't think I could ever leave this place. I never intended to stay but after I got here, I fell in love. I think I'm just stuck here now." Carson shrugged, fixing his glasses.
Gwen smiled softly in response.
"Thats fair, but I guess since I was born and raised here i'm tired of it, like the same with most people who've lived in the state they were born in so–" she said with a shrug.
She had planned on exploring a career in social work, but that didn't seem so realistic now, now she had to figure out what type of career to pursue, and make sure it would get her somewhere in life.
"Well, as someone born in Oregon, raised in South Carolina, and going to college in Alaska, I don't have much of an opinion." He laughed as he returned her shrug. "Who knows? Maybe I'll get sick of it eventually."
Gwen sighed
"being an adult hasn't been all its cracked up to be." She said with a smile that didn't quite reach her eyes.
As the song ended her phone automatically started playing the next on her playlist, which was Daddy Issues by The Neighbourhood.
"You got that right. But hey, we're here now. The only thing we can do is move forward." Carson sighed softly, glancing over at Gwen.
Gwen gave a soft nod and said "yeah, i guess you're right." With a sad smile.
Before her mom died she had her entire life planned out, what she would go to school for, where she would go once she was done, but now that all seems very far away and nonrealistic.
You ask me what I'm thinking about. I tell you that I'm thinking about. Whatever you're thinking about. Tell me something that I'll forget. And you might have to tell me again. It's crazy what you'll do for a friend"
The radio sang softly.
"Gwen, darling, you're thinking too hard about this. Right now you're here with me and that's all that matters." Carson smiled softly as he spoke, glancing over at her.
Gwen gripped the wheel tight as she nodded
"yeah I know, honestly I know I am, but sometimes I can't help it, y'know?" she said aloud
"Go ahead and cry, little girl. Nobody does it like you do. I know how much it matters to you. I know that you got daddy issues. And if you were my little girl. I'd do whatever I could do. I'd run away and hide with you. I love that she's got daddy issues, and I do too."
The radio continued, Gwen reached up and snapped the volume dial down, so the song was barely anything but a whisper in the cold wind slapping against the car window.
Carson reached over and covered one of her hands with his own. "I know. But focus on now, okay? Life can wait."
Gwen nodded briskly and inhaled shakily.
"Yeah, okay" She said to herself aloud.
Carson was right, life could wait; she should make the best of the things in her life now, and worry about the future later, when the time came.
"I tried to write your name in the rain. But the rain never came. So I made with the sun. The shade, Always comes at the worst time."
The radio whispered.
"So maybe stop gripping the wheel so tight? You're gonna break it." He chuckled, patting her hand before withdrawaling back to his side of the car.
Gwen loosened her grip and exhaled shakily, where she then sighed
"sorry, it's just life is a lot to think about. So i'm trying not to think about it, but its hard sometimes." She skipped the rest of the song, which was giving her ultimate sadness for some reasons she couldn't understand.
"Look at the stars. Look how they shine for you, and everything you do. Yeah, they were all yellow"
The radio began to sing softly.
"Oh, there's the park." Carson relaxed as he saw the park come into view. "Ready to head out into the freezing cold for the fun of it?"
Gwendolyn pulled into the park parking lot, and unplugged her phone, putting it in her pocket.
"Yeah, I guess so." She said quietly, rubbing her hands together to create friction.
"Come on, let's go have some fun." Carson stepped out of the car and went around to the other side, opening the door for Gwen and holding out his hand for her to take.
she turned her car off, shoving the keys in her pocket, and took his hand, sliding out of the car, and slamming the door.
"Yeah, lets go." She said happily.
Carson started to guide her through the park, watching his breath disappear in clouds of white mist. "Really should've looked at the weather forecast before I decided to offer this as something to do."
Gwendolyn nodded and laughed, sending her breath into the air with a frost cold, turning her breathe into white mist as well.
"Yeah, we could always go back." She suggested.
"Nope. Can't go back now cause if I do, I'll never leave the house again. So we're just gonna tough it out and deal with it without proper winter wear like true idiots."
