Lucy had hummed in agreement to Lata and Sam’s words. “You would do great, Orion, I’m sure, but that doesn’t sound safe,” she murmured in a slow, cautious tone.

Orion grins softly. "I know how dangerous it is. I've fought in the arena before. A different name, a different time. I know the risks. Do you really think I would let Sam go alone to see them."

(oof I almost forgot about this lol)
Sam scowled at him. "Fierte would kill you before you got into the arena. This is probably her biggest event since the Yin and Yang brothers all those millennia ago. She'd be damned if she let anything ruin it."

“Sam,” Lucy suddenly spoke up, loud and clear this time. “Maybe you shouldn’t be so negative, and try to support our friend instead of being so pessimistic.” Her voice had a slight edge to it, hinting that she wasn’t about to argue with him on the matter.

"I'm not being pessimistic, I'm being realistic," he snapped. "What makes you think Orion could go up against the goddess of war on her own turf? What makes you think any of us could on their own?" Lillith folded her arms.

"Yeah, Fierte's pretty tough. She's been kicking ass and taking names since the first generation of gods. She isn't to be messed with, not if you don't know what you're doing."

“I simply believe you all underestimate Orion and what he is capable of doing,” Lucy responded. She had tried to keep her tone calm, but now a small growl edged its way into her voice when she spoke. Today really wasn’t her day, and all she wanted to do was take the hex bag from her satchel and watch the lowly gods choke on their own goddamn blood. But she stopped her thoughts, slightly frightened by herself that the idea even crossed her mind.

Arik scowled. "Calm down. None of you are doing anything that rash until you've come up with a plan. I suggest sneaking in through one of the lower class gates and then making your way into the crowd. Your priorities should be rescuing Balthazar, but if you can get to Kaon and Pluto that would definitely be a plus."

Lucy shot Sam a threatening look, then turned her head to look over at Arik. Her expression seemed to immediately switch, features going back to their normal softness as she smiled politely. “Wonderful, I’m sure we will all do our best.”

"Just be sure not to injure the other gladiators. Most of Molhaven's inhabitants are demons and angels, and Kaon and Pluto are favored highly among many of their species," Arik warned. Cas seemed to be nodding along before a small look of confusion crossed his face.

"Hold on a moment. Kaon and Pluto. Those aren't their real names, are they?" Arik shook his head.

"No. Kaon's name is Kaz Weathers, Pluto is known as Erik or Erika Westen, and Balthazar has been known as Michael Gray for the past 20 or so years." At this Cas seemed to go into a state of shock, and he realized he couldn't find proper words. He wrapped his arms around himself, and Lillith scowled in a sort of concerned way

Lucy’s lips pursed into a frown as she glanced at Cas for a moment, who’s aura was streaked with grey. She thought about what grey meant for a moment before remembering- distress. She assumed Cas must know those people who were mentioned. She gave him a sympathetic look, chin resting against her palm as she mentally reached out, doing her best to try and soothe him.

(yep he's actually a semi-main character in my webcomic so he shows up a lot now lol)
Cas reached up, rubbing at his face. "I…We've got to save them. We have to save them all." Lillith's frown deepened before a look of realization crossed her face.

"You know them, don't you?" He nodded.

"Kaz is my next door neighbor. And…And he's almost like my son. And Michael, his cousin…I never would have thought that was Balthazar this entire time. And Erik has to be rescued, no questions about it. She's protected the city for so long," he said, his voice cracking just a little in the beginnings of a sob

Lucy’s expression saddened at the sight of Cas. It must be terrible to have people you love thrown into battle against their will. People she loved joined fights willingly, and hell, she was right there with them the whole time. But never had they been forced into it. “Don’t worry, Cas. We’ll rescue them,” she said in a soft tone. She wanted to promise him that they would, but she knew she couldn’t do that.

Cas nodded, sniffling as he composed himself. "Yes. Yes we'll save them. Fierte might let them go if we're lucky. She's never been too fond of Inspa, so maybe if we crash the fight she'll let them slip away."

Orion contemplates something. "How big of a distraction do we need? I bet I could pull off one big enough for everyone to rescue and get out." The still cloaked man seems oddly at ease in this situation, reminding some of the gods in the room or a race that had long since died out, one that was hunted, one that reveled in

"A relatively large one. Enough to distract Fierte at the very least. That way we can rescue the combatants while the coliseum is in chaos," Sam said, resting his chin on his hands

Orion nods. Turns to the others in the room. "If I revealed something to you, would you swear on your beings that you would not kill or report me for it?" Now is about the time that his family realizes he is considering showing what type of Guardian he is.

Sam nodded. "We have no reason to do either of those things." Lillith looked at Sam questioningly.

"You are a naïve little guardian, you know that?" she huffed, and he shot her a look

Orion smiles, and begins shrugging off his hood, first revealing his scaring and ears, lastly his tail. As he does this he speaks. "Twice my kind of Guardian was hunted down. Twice I escaped, to a planet not agreeable to those who are different. My mark was removed, permanently." Here he bows to those assembled. "My name is Orion, and I am a Guardian of both Life and Chaos."

Sam frowned. Life and Chaos? That was an old line of guardians, a line that had gone nearly extinct when the paeans had died out. That meant Orion was old, maybe only a few hundred years younger than Sam. He hadn't seen either a life or chaos guardian in eons, not since Inspa had banished Cerbus and started stealing power. "You've been guarding your dimension for eons, haven't you? I'm amazed you haven't been killed." Lillith frowned.

"Where's your heir? Your second should have taken the position of guardian as soon as you lost your power. That's how it works," she said, confused a little

Orion frowns. "I never had one, the land I protected…it would die with me, and it is very hard for me to die. A heir would have learned the wrong ways from me. I never was traditional, and how many Life Guardians play with blood and death?"

Sam nodded. "I've heard of heirless guardians. Though the only ones left that I know of guard dead and dying universes." Lillith looked at him, something concerned on her face.

"You wouldn't go heirless, would you? You wouldn't kick me out?" she asked, suddenly worrisome. Sam chuckled, shaking his head.

"No, I could never get rid of you. I don't think I could," he chuckled, and Lillith's smile returned

Orion smiles sadly. "I don't really have a universe anymore. I travel now, a vagabond if you will."

Sam's smile faded to a look of sympathetic sadness. "You really did have your mark removed," he said quietly. Lillith seemed a little upset too.

"You know what, we'll figure out a way to fix you Orion!" Lillith said with an air of confidence. "Cas's archives are huge, I bet there's something in there we could find to help you!" Cas nodded.

"There's certainly a possibility. After I inherited the god of wisdom's libraries there's a plethora of knowledge I have of yet to go through."

Smiling, Orion looks at the lot of them. "Y'all are to good to me. One the subject of getting fixed though…I ain't broken. Giving me a new mark would make me a new Guardian. I think I'mma stay like this, rather know who I am than change everything."

Sam nodded. "That's respectable." Arik cleared his throat, frowning a little.

"If you all are finished with the touchy-feely, I would suggest you prepare for tonight. You have two hours before the lower class gates open, and I would encourage you to be there promptly."

Orion gives an unsettling grin, showing off teeth just a little too sharp. "Will do, and with pleasure." Eyes flashing, the aura in the room steadily grows darker, fuller, more……c h a o t i c .
