"Well, we'd still theoretically live here together. We'd be fine." Kansei gently kissed Makoto's cheek and kept eating. "We'd still see each other plenty, I assure you. You know I couldn't bear to be apart from you for too long." They smiled gently at their boyfriend.
"Yeah, fair point." Makoto said, afterward beginning to eat his food. "Guess I blew that outta proportion. Seriously gotta work on that." He let out an embarrassed chuckle, then continued eating. "I couldn't stand to be too far from you either… It would absolutely destroy me."
Kansei flushed lightly, their soft smile lingering as they ate. "Yeah… I'd miss you a lot. Hopefully we'll be able to find a college we can go to together, though. There should be one that can accommodate both of us. Do you know what you want to major in yet?" They asked. "I'm not really sure yet."
"I'm thinking of majoring in psychology. Something about it just works." Makoto said, laughing quietly once more. "We still have time before we find a college, so you have plenty of time to decide what you're gonna major in. There's no rush," he added, soon finishing his food and stretching his arms out. "But frankly, I think it's nicer without the stress of choosing colleges… Hopefully, we'll get that same feeling once we actually apply for one and don't have to worry our guts out about it any further."
"Yeah. We'll have to make sure we actually get in, though. I know most of my scores were pretty good, but I did have that one 'C' in calculus…" They fidgeted nervously with their fork, seeming uneasy. "But they won't mind that, right? I-I mean, I'm not even planning on majoring in math, so it shouldn't really matter."
"Yeah, I think if you're not majoring in math, your calculus grade won't affect anything." Makoto replied. "I myself didn't really get the hots on some of my classes. I aced all my health-related classes, and since psychology plays into that, I think they won't give it a second thought. And if they do give it a second thought, then I'll just make my way through it some other way. Maybe write, like… a moving psychology essay and have it prove why I'm eager to major in the field. And if all else fails… Well, I dunno what I'll do then. Maybe prep another essay. God, would that kill my hands though."
"Mm, yeah… what do you think I should major in?" They asked Makoto curiously, still toying with their fork. "I don't really want to just do general classes or whatever, but I also don't really know what I wanna do." They sighed and looked down at their plate of food. "I dunno if I'm really good enough at anything, you know?"
"Hmm… I never thought about that. I dunno, really. Normally, I'd say 'Just take a look at the subject you did the best in and find a major that closely relates to it or matches it perfectly,' but frankly, I didn't even listen to that advice myself so..c. Yeah, I'm clueless, haha," Makoto replied, shrugging. "I know you like animals… Maybe you could try majoring in animal sciene or animal behavior? Either those, or the plenty of other majors that involve animals."
"Yeah, I dunno… I don't think I'd be a very good vet or anything…" Kansei sighed softly and finished their food before starting to wash the dishes. "Maybe I shouldn't go to college…? I-I mean, I don't exactly have the money, and I don't know what I want to do anyway. Maybe I'll be a house spouse. I'm good at cooking and cleaning, right?"
"I think you'd be great, but if you're not feeling it… Then yeah, maybe not going to college is an idea you could consider. Some people don't have to go to college to get good jobs. Freelance artists, for example, can start their jobs right after they finish high school," Makoto said. "And yeah, you're great with both of those, if I do say so myself."
"Yeah, maybe… I-I dunno, it's still a little while until I have to decide, and I could always take a gap year to give myself some more time." They sighed and stretched a bit, sitting back down at the table after they finished up with the dishes. "I don't know what kinda job I'd want either. I can't draw or anything."
"Yeah, if you need more time to choose, you could definitely take the gap year. I guess I'm not too great at advice, given the circumstances, haha," he said, finally getting up from the table. He stretched his legs out and sighed, fixing his necklace. "Whatever you feel is right in your eyes, you should go for it."
Kansei nodded a bit and watched Makoto get up. "Yeah… I'm sure I'll figure something out. I mean, psychology is good for money, right? We'd probably be okay even if I ended up being a house spouse." They toyed nervously with their hands, not quite sure what to do. "I just don't wanna cause any problems…"
"Yeah, I think if I were to get a career in psychiatry, I could make a fair amount of money," Makoto replied, making his way back to the couch. "I'm sure you wouldn't cause any problems. I think the only way you could really cause any trouble is if you began to try to do just that."
"Yeah, I guess you're right…" Kansei got up from the table and headed over to hug Makoto, sighing shakily. "I'm just worried about it… do you think I'll regret it later if I don't go to college or something? I-I don't wanna make any stupid mistakes, you know? That would definitely be problematic…"
"I'm sure there's plenty of people from school who won't be going to college. I think the only reason people get afraid of not going is because schools make it a point to get them perpped for college, so that they always end up going. But if you don't want to go, I'm sure it won't be minded. I'm sure you could take online courses later on, if you're not ready to actually go to college," he said with a gentle smile on his face. "No matter what you do, it won't change who you are as a person. You'll always be Kansei, no matter what path you take in life, y'know?"
Kansei nodded a bit and buried their face in Makoto's shoulder. "R-Right… thanks, Makoto…" They replied softly, still holding tightly to the other. "I'll probably still need to figure out some kind of job to do while you're at college, though. I can't just sit around and do nothing, you know? I wanna be able to help out somehow."
"Well, take your time. You shouldn't try and make a hasty decision," Makoto said, gently running his hand through Kansei's hair. "That might make things even more stressful than they already are. For now, just focus your energy on thinking about what you would want to pursue, and then write it down in an agenda or something. Whatever you write down, you can try your hand at it and whichever you end up doing best, you can stick with that."
"Right… I'll figure something out as soon as I can." Kansei leaned into Makoto's gentle touch, sighing contentedly. "Thanks, love… is there anything you wanna do now that we're done eating?" They asked softly, turning their gaze up to Makoto's face. "I'm fine to do anything, even if we're only watching TV or something."
"Yeah, TV sounds good. Hopefully, they'll have some interesting shows playing now," he said, grabbing the remote. He turned on the TV and looked at Kansei. "Do you have any idea what you'd wanna watch? I'm thinkin' true crime on my end, but I wanted to make sure I asked you first, in case you wanted to watch somethin' different."
"True crime is fine with me." Kansei shrugged and huddled up against Makoto's side to watch TV. "I'm not really picky either way. Do you want any popcorn or anything?" They asked. "I can go make some if you want some; I don't mind, honestly."
"Alright," Makoto replied, flipping to the true-crime channel. "Yeah, I'd definitely kill for some popcorn." Makoto pulled his phone out and started scrolling, not really watching what was going on on the TV screen but certainly listening to it. He occasionally glanced at the screen, but always ended up looking back at his phone.
"Alright, I'll be right back, then." Kansei got to their feet and headed into the kitchen, returning a few minutes later with popcorn to share and candy for each of them. They huddled up against Makoto again and started quietly eating, keeping their eyes on the TV screen.
"Mh." By now, Makoto had stopped scrolling through his phone and placed it beside him. He then wrapped his arm around Kansei, pulling them closer to him. He grabbed a handful of popcorn and nearly stuffed his face with said handful, then continued focusing on the show playing. "This is nice. Like… our own, personal true-crime theatre.," he joked, chuckling hushedly.
"Yeah, I guess so." Kansei laughed softly and kept quietly eating their popcorn, albeit a bit more politely than Makoto was. "It's definitely nice. I like spending time with you; just… relaxing like this. We should do this more often." They hummed contentedly and huddled closer.
"Yeah, we definitely should," he spoke, after taking a moment to finish the handful of popcorn he had shoved into his mouth. "Times like this make life worth living. Especially with all the stress of choosing things left and right… It's the sense of comfort I'm sure we've both needed."
"Mhmm…" Kansei yawned and closed their eyes, content to cuddle up with Makoto for the time being. It really felt like it had been ages since they just relaxed together like this, and they were thoroughly enjoying it. "You're the best, love…" They murmured.
"Awh.." Makoto muttered under his breath. "I think you're the best though." He hushed himself down, and pulled Kansei a little closer. He enjoyed this; just being able to relax for once, especially after all the worrying they both have been doing recently. In terms of together-time, as he liked to call it, Makoto, frankly, wouldn't have it any other way.
Kansei hummed contentedly as they nestled themself up against Makoto's side. "We should get Taco Bell or Dairy Queen or something. Fun little outing. We can call it a date." They smiled up at Makoto, opening their eyes to gaze up at him fondly.
"Yeah, those sound great. I'm definitely all for Dairy Queen," he replied, a small grin on his face. "Ice cream sounds really good right about now." Makoto let out a hushed laugh and stretched his arms out, yawning. He wrapped his arm back around Kansei, pulling them closer once again.
